Well a little honesty here - I picked these two up a couple years ago and the kid ringing them up at the truck parts place only charged me the replacement flag price for the flags and poles so I guess I could actually buy a set.

Used to be a fantastic restaurant but, well you can see what I mean about it now. Back when I started driving you could go in the "professional drivers only" side and Charlie Newell would almost always, without fail be sitting there at the big round table with a bunch of drivers. He listened to everything they had to say and if something needed attention it was dealt with right then and there. I seen the old man pumping fuel, changing tires, cleaning the bathrooms, bussing tables and serving coffee. He passed away several years ago and his kids took over but they were "executives" and didn't have the time in their day to talk to drivers or god forbid actually lift a finger around there.

Applebees up the frontage is also a hit or miss, my advise - don't order a steak. Other than that KFC sucks, across the freeway is Braums - okay if you like greasy hamburgers and just a little further up the street from Braums is Montana Mikes and again, hit or miss - food usually isn't too bad but the service, well my experience has been there is no service.

If you want to wander clear into town, there's a place on main street right down town called Island Blue - pretty decent food mostly with a Caribbean flair. Just south of the track at the Old Mill is Reba's, excellent food but more of an upscale type place with some interesting menu choices. For breakfast, just on the south side of the Old Mill (about 1/2 block south of the train tracks) on the west side of Main is a place called the Bread Basket. Breakfast buffet and it's (in my opinion) fantastic, the bacon is crispy, scrambled eggs are cooked not cooked beyond recognition and EVERYTHING is home made right there in the store.

Or call my wife, put in your order. Or at least that's what a couple drivers here do on the weekends, they call from Salina and place their orders. (But I wouldn't call here right now, she's been in bed for 2 hours and your liable to hear words that would make a truck driver blush.)

Never found much for food there, but I've cleaned all the straps off the shelves more than once. Some of the best prices around on those.

Truck Town in Colby, KS on the south access road east of the Petro, best prices I have found on straps, especially 4" ratchet's.

    Home!

Parked truck with Eaton load at Petro in Atlanta and rented car to come home with. Will head back out Sat or Sun.

Didnt feel like dealing with weather and holiday traffic. Was cheaper to rent car and drive home then to pay for 750 miles of fuel.

Got the light situation sorted out late last night. A driver was in the J and we got to talking while I was waiting in line to pay for a very overpriced POS beacon. Turns out this driver was also an OD guy and he had an old beacon in his junk box that he gave me.

So my plan was to get to the 240 on I-25 north of Denver, wait out the holiday mess and roll after midnight to the Kansas line, take my 30 min break and roll on home. All was going good except for the idiots in the cars who could care less about the safety of their kids in the back seat. I passed the Ft. Collins scale and wham, traffic comes to a dead stop so I inched my way for the next 15 minutes to the next exit and took up residence at Wal-Mart.

That's probably, no wait, that is THE most true statement in days. I won't even go into the fiasco trying to get fuel at the J in Casper this morning. I wound up covered in diesel, getting charged $1.50 for my advance because their pump $$$$$$ up and then not being able to get bulk DEF because "it's been frozen since last Friday"!! Really and you lazy $$$ $$$$$$$ couldn't put a little sign on the pumps, that's 5 ******* days it hasn't been working. If you do happen to need DEF and select it you can't get your receipt or finalize your transaction because IT DOESN'T WORK!!! And another FYI, don't fuel at the end pump, if your fueling and someone else stops the hose blows in two at the safety coupler but the safety coupler doesn't stop the flow, it just sprays it all over everything within 10 feet of it and the only way to stop it is to get covered in fuel trying to hit the lever to shut the pump off.

I don't drink, never have but I'm seriously thinking of walking into Wal-Mart and adorning myself with a bottle of wine and sleeping till Friday.
