Sliding(In Motion) Fifth Wheel

PAIN IN THE @#$ would be a good name

 

that would have a serious effect on weight distribution, if you have prepass or similar W.I.M. that could really mess with your readings.

 

Who's the manufacturer?

 

I agree with wore out and I'll second that on the weight seems like a good way to get youreslef in a mess of trouble to me. I'll stick with my air slide or a fixed 5th wheel.

 

That seems like a bad idea all the way around. I see it freezing up in cold temps but what are you supposed to do when you can't afford to slide the fifth wheel forward any? Seems like an easy way to get an overweight ticket

 

Does the trailer tandems slide as well? That would really put you in a situation as you roll over a scale! What do ya tell them? "I have one of those new sliding 5th wheels and so I'm exempt from issues with the weights on the drives!"

 

Never heard of anything like that before, but a (locked) sliding fifth wheel sounds infinitely safer.

If somehow it malfunctioned and slid freely back and forth, that could be a dangerous situation.

 

So it slide forward to improve aerodynamics? What about when you turn? Why not just leave it forward?

 

I remember reading something about this years ago, I think it ONLY slides forward at or above a certain speed, like 55 mph, so crossing a typical scale it would be in the "stationary" mode.

However crossing a weigh in motion scale does bring up a good point.
