I arrived at 2000 for an 2030 appt time. Got a door at 2100. By 2300 they hadn't even started unloading. I went inside to see what the delay was. The head lumper got on his radio and talked to someone, then asked me what door I was in for the second time. He told me that they were short handed and that they should get to me soon. They finally started unloading at 0030.
Head lumper guy came out and knocked on my door at 0200 and said the unloading fee was $115. I sent a QC to dispatch and got a TCH check for the amount (I was annoyed that they were charging me at all since they took so #### long. I wouldn't keep my job very long if I was 3.5 hrs late). I took the check in and when I got back out to my truck, there was a msg from the head of night dispatch saying that the lumper fee was prepaid and they shouldn't have charged me. I went back in to get the check back, and they kept insisting that the load was not pre-paid because their little electronic device said to charge me the $115. I had the head lumper call his boss. The boss finally called back 45 min later and told him that the load was, in fact, pre-paid and to give me the check back.
i then went to the receiving office to get my bills. The clerk informed me that there was an overage and that thay had put the product back on the trailer. They had marked on the bills that they had put 104 cases of product back on. I went out to the dock and checked my trailer. They had only put 80 cases back on. I told the lumper of the problem. He recounted the cases on my trailer and concluded that there were only 80 cases on the trailer and that he didn't know where the other 24 were at. After searching for an hour, he could not find the other 24 cases and said he didn't know where they went. Both he and the shipping clerk were reluctant to change the case count on my bills, acting as if somehow I was responsible for them going missing. I told them that I refused to pull out of the dock until I had a signed BOL for the 80 cases on my trailer. Finally the clerk called his boss and was told to sign off on the 80 cases.
I finally got out of there of there at 0500. Every time that I've been to this Publix (or the one in Dacula, GA too) there has been some sort of ordeal, but this was by far the worst. Incompetence abounds.

It's been 2and a half years since I have been there, something's will never change. Was the same with me when I went there.

That sucks... Ive been to the one in Lakeland and luckily didn't have any issues... Was it a good mile run for you? Hopefully... 9 hours at a DC is BS...Good job on your part for counting the cases put back on I'm sure most drivers don't care to do that specially after sitting somewhere for 9 hours.... Happy Thanksgiving -
Surely your first and last horrible DC experience...;--)
Polarbear25 and 8thnote Thank this. -
It must be whatever you're taking in there. I've been to Publix Lakeland many times and it was always a good experience. One thing I like about them is that when you're done unloading, they let you pull across the lot and sleep there if you want to. Very few grocery warehouses will let you do that.

Its a Grocery whse--pretty much the same everywhere anymore--My problem w/it is--WHY is it always the ones that WERE good--that end up the worst--for many many years--Publix was one of the BEST places to deliver--then they got the C&S mentality--let most of the staff go--brought in Freight Handlers--and boom boom out goes the lites

Used to deliver meat to the deli dock there.used to be FIFO.went to appt. haven't been in 4-5 months, and won't unless rate goes up. Last time there took 4.5 hours to unload what used to take 45 minutes

Been sitting here looking at a red dock light for 6 hours now. First and last time here.
