I've asked my customs broker about this before.....i.e. can I cut through another country to deliver a load. The answer was "If you are a bonded carrier you can". If you're empty, then no problem

If youre empty Canada customs just needs I.D, if you go to U.S. they need an e manifest.
I think U.S. customs is alot harder on Americans coming back than they are on us going in.

Man I know Sweetgrass very well. I always fuel up at that old Pilot right before the border and walk over to that Pizza Hut since that is the only name brand that I recognize out there. Everything else is ol' mom n' pop billy bob's eatery.

When I was hauling trucks a lot of the drivers complained about going to Canada cause of Customs. The ones that did it on a regular basis laughed and told them it was easier to get into Canada than it was coming back. I always swore I was just going to stay up there there one day just so I wouldn't have to deal with crossing back to the U.S. You never would have thought they would give their own citizens so much trouble coming back.

The little bar & grill right next door to the Pilot makes one killer hamburger.

Yes but that's the problem.....are you a citizen or are you just another guy with phony ID that claims to be American wanting to get into the greatest country in the world?

With Canadians, US Customs knows we don't want to stay. We've got healthcare

It can save an hour or more, and it isn't a big deal. Call both Canadian and US customs to get the procedures and what can and can't be hauled in transit. You may have to seal the load too.

i cross a couple times a week and it all depends on who you get at either crossing, good and bad on both sides, the one thing that does bother me is the food thing going into the US, if you have an apple or orange, even if you have the receipt it was bought in the US and it had the "product of USA" sticker, they still lose their minds over it??? It's not a load of fruit it's one or 2 apples in my fridge. Really?

ALL cross boarder loads have to be sealed with a bolt or high security seal technically. I still see trailers without them, and I have been asked if I have a high security seal, but don't know of anybody who got nabbed without one?
