Recently I changed the coolant from my truck's Cat C15 engine. I drained completely and flushed for 30 minutes with water running directly from the tap. Then I used 5 gallons of undiluted coolant and topped up with water. However, it took in only about 2-3 gallons of water. I was curious about this but assumed that there were 1 or 2 gallons of water already in the engine after the flush. Now since that day the engine operates at 150F maximum which is too low from recommended optimum!
Did I do anything wrong and what is the solution for this. Help pls!

Most cat parts people know when we say thermostats they need to look for regulators. MHC at Little Rock hired a new guy, still have to tell him regulators.

T-stats.......if they don't fix the issue, you could possibly have a temp sensor bad as well. If the tstats don't do it, take it and have the temp read off the ECM and see what it shows compared to the gauge. Are you getting heat on the defrost? If not....def tstats. If your getting heat and gauge shows 150, check ecm temp compared to gauge......may be bad gauge

I've heard you should not use tap water to mix with your antifreeze. It has to do with the minerals in the water. I always buy be premixed myself.

You are right. But it is cheaper to buy normal concentrate antifreeze then get distilled water from walmarts or rite aid pharmacy for $1.50 a gallon.

When u filled er up did u go slow so all the air could escape? How was temps before u changed coolant?

if temps were fine before u may have an air pocket from fillin too fast

Thanx guys for soo much info.
The temps were fine before I changed coolant and I did not go slow when filling. How do I go about removing the air pocket. Seems like this would be a good start before replacing the thermostat. By the way I am getting heat from defrost & will also check the gauges as suggested by catmechanic07.
