We have had an interesting Thanksgiving day! We are thankful for the wonderful employees at the TA in Sawyer MI, where we ended our day last night. They cooked up a delicious Thanksgiving dinner for everyone who was stuck away from home and we are thankful for our first shower since we left home 5 days ago! Boy, that shower felt good! We got a pre trip first thing this morning, so after our showers and food we planned to head straight out to Tyson for the load. And then everything went nuts.

Tim tried to fix his mud flap that was loose on the trailer and needed different tools so he took it to the garage at the TA. Also the tag light quit so it needed to be fixed. We waited for a bay for about 45 min and then got inside. After 2.5 hrs they had it all fixed and we drove out of the bay, ready to go get the load.

That's when we discovered that the QC was dead. We wondered if maybe they broke it somehow while messing with all the wires and things so they said drive it back in the bay and they'll take a look. So we did and they tested all the fuses and found nothing wrong.

Tim called dispatch to tell them and he talked to breakdown but nobody had an answer for the problem. So he had to switch to paper logs, oh boy! Then he had to get dispatch to fax his last 8 days to him, which took forever.

    But wait! There's more!

While we were in the bay he discovered that his windshield washers, which had quit working during the winter storm, had not frozen up like he thought, but rather, were broke. The t-fitting had a leak and the washer fluid was leaking out under the hood. The shop guys tried to fix it but didn't have a matching t-fitting so it's still broke. They would have to order one and it would cost too much.

So anyway, things were crazy today. At 10 pm we finally left the TA, heading for Tyson in IN. Looks like we will be stopping in Sapulpa for a new Qualcomm on the way to our TX delivery. Do they come with a 2014 Evo maybe? ;).

    Happy Thankgiving everyone!

It's like Deja Vu. That nasty little T fitting seems like it's designed to fail. I replaced mine with a vacuum line T that I bought at an auto parts store. It's an easy fix. To start, I bought a package of assorted T's at O'Reillys for less than $5.

Climb on top of the engine with your socket wrench, utility knife, and Torx wrench, and remove the cowl so you can get at the fitting. The T fitting connects to some hard plastic hoses that are a pain to pull off, so cut them off with the knife. The smallest vacuum connectors are the perfect size. Unfortunately for me, my package had assorted sizes on each T; like two smalls and a large, or vice versa. What I did was connect the tank hose and the driver-side hose on the two small connectors. I cut off an inch from the flexible hose going to the wiper and worked it over the large connector on the T. This hose was then doubled up and tied tight with a cable tie to close off that connector.

So I now have driver's-side washer fluid until I can find a better T fitting. I bet Lowes or Homeless Depot sells them. I shudder to think what the T/A would charge to replace it!

I looked into the Choice program. It's interesting, but it's not available everywhere, at least not in my area. The trucks available to lease with them were pretty worn out too.

According to the Schneider website, the Percentage Lease is only available for solo owner-operators: http://schneiderjobs.com/owner-operators/lease-programs/percentage-lease

Well, today, Friday, was another interesting day. Started out at 12:30am when we arrived at Tyson. Another driver said TYSON = Trucker You're Staying Over Night and we laughed about it, but that's exactly what happened! After dropping our trailer in that beautiful gravel lot filled with huge potholes at Pasquale's truck wash up the road, we hooked up to our new trailer and it had no registration, a side marker light at rear was missing, broken off and the rear trailer lights were inop. So he called dispatch and breakdown and got tossed around from one dept to another a few times and they still wanted him to pull it to Gallahans to get looked at. He refused and we ended up staying the night in the bobtail section so he could pull it in daylight. Before we parked for the night he hooked to 2 other JCT trailers, just to see if it was our truck with a problem or the trailer and guess what. It was our truck. None of the back light worked on three trailers in a row that he tried. Great.

Now remember, his Qualcomm is broken too, so everything has to be done via phone call and he's keeping paper logs, which is such a pain, it takes so much longer to write it all! And every single person he talked to had to hear the story, he must have repeated it 6 times or more.

Friday morning after a 10 hr rest, hook up to the trailer and drag it to Gallahans, weigh it, it's overweight but he was able to make adjustments and it's OK. He talks to the guy in the garage shop and he fixed the T-fitting, he put in a brass one, and he fixed the light problem, which was a blown fuse and it was $97. I like the sound of your $5 fix much better.

5 hours later, at 7:15pm, we are back on the road. He tried all afternoon to get someone to fax him a trailer registration to Gallahans, got tossed around from person to person on the phone, got put on hold, got disconnected, left a message that was never answered and never got the registration faxed to him. So at 7 he called Dispatch again and said can you please fax it ahead to a Pilot? We will be there in a few hours. The dispatcher had told him earlier that everyone had just up and left and I guess that means there is now nobody who knows how to do that? So we will have to avoid weigh stations to keep moving with this load of hams or sit until someone comes in to work who can help us!
