    Very long story short:
Friend is asking me about becoming a CDL, had 1 DUI 17yrs ago... then got another DUI 14yrs ago. The 2nd DUI caused him to loose his license for 10yrs because of being caught driving on revoked nearly every time he had a review coming up. He finally found a decent lawyer, and kept his nose clean long enough to get license back 3-5yrs ago. No tickets since

What are his chances of finding someone to hire him? or how much longer will he need to wait?

BTW, I wouldn't be asking if he had not learned his lesson or any thought he'd ever take another drink.

Some companys will say no DUI in the last 5 years some will say none never. If he has his normal license he can get a cdl dilemma is finding a company who doesn't go back that far on driving history. But if ask never lie because he will pegged as untrustworthy I got 2 DUIs while in the marine corps in 83 and 84. Got my cdl in 94. Went right to work with Burlington motor carriers. But things are different now. I'm not even sure if mine are on my history but I have always put them down and have never been ask about them. If it's been 5 years someone will pick him up just may not be the most desirable but at least he is moving forward and putting more time on his side along with experience nothing wrong with having a few cold ones or mixed drinks JUST STAY HOME!

Dui's are a problem in this industry. His history with the long suspension demonstrates a disregard for the rules and this industry is one of the most regulated in the country. Most insurance companies and carriers primarily look at the last 3 years when checking work and driving history. He could check with some of the carriers who hire inexperienced drivers, but my guess is that it will be difficult for him to get into this industry. The long suspension will likely cause as much or more of a problem as the 2 dui's.

they typically only go back 10 years on dui's. so even his last dui should be gone from his driving record. unless the laws have changed again.

when i got mine. it was 7 for non cdl. and 10 for cdl. mine actually disappeared for 18 months. then popped back up. becuase the law changed to 10 years.

don't know about the revocation thing though. but if he's smart. he'll get those dui's expunged from his record. that's usually 10 years from last dui. they probably won't see it or care about it since it's past 10 years on mvr. but they'll see it on his criminal arrest history. get them expunged and that will improve his chances.

in utah, we pay $10 at the background criminal investigation. submit fingerprints. receive our history. and wait 30 days for letter to say yay or nay. if it's yay. we go back. get another paper. take it to courthouse. judge signs it. you pay filing fee for 6 copies. court keeps one. prosecuting attorney gets one. arresting police department gets one. arresting jail gets one. background criminal gets one. and you keep one. wait 30 days. go back. pay $10 for a new record and it'll be gone.

that's PER offense. i hand delivered all mine. 1 day of your time. no lawyer needed. total cost was about $75. well worth it.

Three words, slim, fat and none unless he goes the extra mile and has those records expunged.

The DUIs won't hurt as much as the driving while revoked.
