Please show me where the regulations say just city and state. I called the FMCSR at 1-202-366-5370 (rules and regulations) and asked for a clarification of the definition for Main Office Address. The answer was the main office address is the complete address. However, I told the guy that there's been alot of guys out there listing the city and state for many years and have never been hit during any inspection. His reponse was it's better to be safe than sorry. So unless there's a specfic rule that states you can just list the city and state you're left up to the inspectors determination of what that definition means.

(d) The following information must be included on the form in addition to the grid:
(d)(1) Date;
(d)(2) Total miles driving today;
(d)(3) Truck or tractor and trailer number;
(d)(4) Name of carrier;
(d)(5) Driver's signature/certification;
(d)(6) 24 hour period starting time (e.g., midnight, 9:00 a.m., noon, 3:00 p.m.);
(d)(7) Main office address;
(d)(8) Remarks;
(d)(9) Name of co driver;
(d)(10) Total hours (far right edge of grid); and
(d)(11) Shipping document number(s), or name of shipper and commodity.
If you notice (d) (4) & (d) (7) that would be the answer I believe to solve the argument. This is directly from the link below to show you I am not posting false information and to show you what the DOT regulations are.

Yes we've covered all that and know the regulation, that's not the problem. The problem is the definition of the "Main Office Address". Some drivers say it's only the city and state and I say it's the complete address. You'll see on my previous post that I contacted the FMCSA and asked for a clarification and the answer they gave me was good enough for me.

I had a Level 2 last week .... in my book all I have is the city and state for the address .... nothing was said about it .... said everything was good with the book no problems .... flying colors
Found out later that the one that did it is a full blown pri*k .... couple guys where i was loading afterwards said they were surprised that he didnt get me for at least something

d)(7) Main office address;
The address is required, however many officers may not really pick on you about it! It's more to know what time zone you are logging "I guess" so if you have the City & State they may accept it. However right the correct info and you won't have to worry about anything

I was told by a safety officer at one of my previous companies that the only reason for a company's address on a log is to determine the proper time zone the driver should be using.

When I had a truck leased to Inway in Rockford, IL (Central Time Zone) and they "domiciled" me in Grand Rapids, MI (eastern time zone where I lived) and I only put Rockford IL as the address of Inway and Grand Rapids, MI as "Home Terminal Address".
-
That's my point exactly. Why not give the whole address and not worry about it.

We've covered this point before too. Just because you had no problems and went through inspections with flying colors does not make that situation 100% legal. I'm happy you came out clean. But you can get hit years later for something an inspector told you was right. They read the same regulations we do and if we're having so much deviation in what we read you can expect they'll have the same problem. -
Oh duh on me! When someone ask for an address what would you give them? Just the City & State or would you give them the "1919 #### DOT" Indianapolis, IN. 46208"
I would say the FULL ADDRESS as all trucking companies that pre-print it show the Full address. You may get an officer that says nothing about it and you may get the officer that knows the regulations
