the eu is effectively trying to ban electronic cigarettes by banning all refillable cartridges, among other things. the restrictions being proposed would have a far reaching effect on the availability of e-cigs. if you value your (or anyone else's) right to choose a healthier and much less harmful alternative to combustible tobacco cigarettes, please head on over and sign this petition:

ps - i hope i'm not breaking any forum rules by posting this. if i am, i apologise in advance, but i feel very strongly that the proposed regulations are ludicrous and will prevent many, many people from breaking free from the major health hazard that is smoking. the ripple effect of these eu regulations will be felt around the world if they get passed.
pps. i've been vaping for 9 and a half months now and haven't smoked for 9 months. without e-cigs, i'd still be pumping my body full of carcinogens and poisons. where nothing else could break my 35 year pack a day habit, i've finally found something that works for me.

You do know this forum is 99% USA drivers don't you? I'll have to ask the admin as we let one we have to let all. One link invites ten links if you know what I mean and the way the internet is we try to keep the not so normal things away. We'll see what he says in the morning.
I thought about changing to e cigs but I know a nurse at a local hospital who told me they have a noticeable increase in lung ailments like pneumonia caused by people smoking electronic cigarettes. The increased constant moisture people keep inhaling is a breeding ground for germs and bacteria in their lungs. They were thrown on the market with no regulation or studies. They are now finding this stuff out and and see a need to regulate. -
Chantix worked for me. I didn't even want to quit. Doc gave me the script, I took the pills as directed, smoked as much as I wanted too. After two and a half weeks, I didn't want to smoke anymore. Some folks complain about evil dreams. I never could get anyone to discribe what they dreamed about, just that it was bad. Me? I dreamed of puppies, crawling on me, licking my face. Always woke up smiling! One month of pill taking, 6 years non smoking. It took my wife 3 attempts but she made it too!
disclaimer,
you still have nicotine withdraw. I was a real ##### for a couple weeks. But, dragging on a butt stes doing anything for you so you just stop doing it.
good luck and prayers to you!CondoCruiser Thanks this. -
I had weird dreams on that stuff like riding a horse with no head. It made me real depressed when normally I'm happy go lucky. But that was about the time my thyroid quit working which didn't help any.
I'm scared to take any of them anti-depressants. Wellbutrin done me the same way. If I quit it's gonna be 100% will power. About the only thing I haven't tried is hypnosis and acupuncture.

there's people from all over the world signing the petition, cos what one big power does, others often follow. from what i understand, the fda is taking it's lead from the eu in regards to e-cigs.
i tried absolutely everything before getting on to ecigs. nothing worked, or if it did, it was only very short term due to side effects. the remedy always seemed to be worse than the problem, if that makes sense.RedForeman Thanks this. -
my brother in law quit smoking. and was a healthy horse.
he's now in jeopardy of losing his career. with all the fmcsa bs being forced on us. (gained a few pounds).
i've done the quitting thing. i end up with chest pains. and pounding down the m & m's.
i don't have dreams. but i don't get no sleep either. -
I'd urge the powers that be to let this one pass since it's not really spam. I'll also add a pointer to e-cigarette-forum dot com to further educate in a broader, and global forum specific to this topic.
No offense, but this is the exact sort of anecdotal information that leads to over-reaching government interference such as the EU (and US FDA for that matter) is considering. When I was smoking a pack a day, I could count on at least one nasty bout of the flu, bronchitis, or the like each winter, sometimes two or more. Since switching to an e-cig: one flu in three years and it only ran 3 days instead of a week or more that it used to when I smoked. So technically you could draw that line between a flu and e-cig use. Reality is that an e-cig is the lesser of the two evils by a huge margin.
I've also had substantially better dental health during recent years. The last five years I smoked I was getting another tooth crowned just about each year. The last three years, only one cavity filled. I didn't just suddenly start brushing better or find some magical dental care product. The only thing that changed was the absence of tobacco smoke.
Another "good to have" has been a substantial drop in my blood pressure. The best I could do on physicals before I went from tobacco to an e-cig was borderline hypertensive at 128/95. And that only with some preparation before showing up at the doctor's office. Hydrate with lots of water, a few bananas for a potassium boost, then practically meditate before getting the cuff on for a check. Now I walk in with none of that prep work, using the e-cig right up till I walk in the office. 110/85 more or less for the past few years. A bit elevated due to the damage already done by 30 years of smoking, but well within acceptable compared to my tobacco years.
So is using an electronic cigarette equal to quitting cold turkey? No. Still getting a dose of nicotine while enjoying my "smoking" habit without actual smoke.
Can a long-time smoker who suddenly goes from smoke to a vapor suffer some side effects like excessive phlegm production and related ailments? Yes. Coincidentally the same thing happens when that person moves to a humid climate. Also happens naturally once their lungs start to heal once they stop inhaling burning tobacco smoke. Do we need scientific studies to determine something that is common sense? Is that really something that government can fix by creating more regulations and taxes? Just saying, that's worked out so well with the tobacco products still on the market along with the pharmaceutical solutions that might get someone to quit tobacco only to get mentally sideways or suicidal as a side effect.
The big pharmaceutical and tobacco companies are already pushing government to regulate/control the electronic cigarette market. Not to keep all us filthy ex-smokers healthy, but to preserve their eroding bottom line. Big pharma and big tobacco are trying to use government to force more consumers to buy their products. Big government thinks it's found another minority group of consumers to impose yet another unfair tax upon. Don't kid yourself: it's all about the money and little to do with health.bullhaulerswife, CondoCruiser, kaygirl and 1 other person Thank this. -
The admin said it was okay.

i've never heard of this before. i've been keeping abreast of a lot of the research, and haven't come across anything to indicate any lung ailments increasing in people vaping. the lungs are a moist place anyway. all of your insides are moist. i think either the nurse has misinterpreted something or someone has told her a load of old rubbish.Joetro Thanks this.

excellent
thank you.
here in oz, it's a sad but true fact that our pollies often take their lead from the americans and brittish. don't seem to be able to make up their own minds without someone else taking the first steps. this proposed legislation has all us ozzie vapers feeling mighty nervous. it's hard enough over here as it is, with nicotine sales being illegal. we're allowed to import it for personal use, but it wouldn't take much for even that to be taken from us, i don't think.
