and be a jack of all trades and master of none? I'd rather be the master of one trade. The thing in this business is you have to learn the freight lanes. The thing about freight lanes is that they move, some times day by day. You can run into an area on a Monday and have that area dead, however on Thursday, that same area is cranking out loads faster than trucks can arrive.

As a company driver, I have not been affected. My boss says that he has to accept 'SOME' lower rates in order to compete, particularly in a poor freight area. But its not going to make or break the company and I have not experienced any down time as a result. I always have a new load ready as soon as I unload. Its like anything else,.. you take the bad with the good. You keep rolling,.. it all evens out in the end.

There is a definite slowdown in Flatbed traffic from Thanksgiving until February. I have been closely involved in this for some time and its usually predictable for the most part. On the upside you will be begging for a break from March until October.
