That is sweet! The greatest thing about that is you can park anywhere! No fighting for spots at 5pm at the truck stop! Hell, you could park at the front door if you wanted to!
Badmon Thanks this. -
i never knew they made em with sleepers
-
That's a Bentz sleeper, a company that went out of business because they made crap.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Then how does Mercedes stay in business?
-
Mercedes-Benz doesn't make crap.
-
Well that all depends, they have made crap before but ... anywho ... it is a Bentz sleeper, not a Benz sleeper. Bentz was a company in I think Ft Wayne In who went belly up when the market got soft and the owner went on to open another business up. I've owned several trucks with Bentz sleepers and every one of them gave me problems. There was someone who wrote up a really good step by step of owning one, his horrors and the fire he had, I don't remember the website but it was a good read.KB3MMX Thanks this.

This may for sure be a dumb question. I am considering getting a sprinter van and getting into expediting. I am pretty handy with tools and such. Is it legal to install your own sleeper in one, or are there certifications and requirements that would pretty much make it necessary to have a company do it? Maybe I haven't been looking long enough, but all the pics I see online seem to be aftermarket factory installs, not owner built.

It would take a steering wheel holder to believe that.

Minimum specs are available in the Federal Motor Carrier regulations guide, should be reasonably easy to construct a sleeper to meet them. Otherwise, I believe the guys running pickups log their breaks as off-duty rather than sleeper berth, double check the regs before attempting.
