Good thing we tried the shake down cruise. Broke down twice. First thing in the morning we got in at 4am and had the truck idling for about a half hour while we got set up. It started to idle rough and when we went to pull out it had no power and top speed of about 10 mph. We limped the 500 yards to the Volvo dealer and waited for them to open. Once they pulled it in we found the fuel filter filled with sludge. Sitting for two months with about 1/4 tank of fuel was a mistake. I should have thought of this, the mechanic also should have thought of this. Replaced the filter, bought an extra filter and we were off. Just need to keep replacing filters until we get the fuel cleaned up. I have replaced once and we seem to be fine. On the way to South Carolina in Atlanta rush hour I all of a sudden get a cloud of steam come rolling out of the hood. Upper radiator hose has a 3" split. Took 5 hours to track down a replacement and get moving again. Got back home and had a wonderful Thanksgiving and headed out late Sunday night. We are now on a 4200 mile loop out to Los Angeles, Houston and Memphis. The truck is running AWESOME and we are getting 9 MPG. Light load but we never broke 8 MPG even bobtailing with the old engine. Looking forward to the Wow Diner in Milan NM for breakfast tomorrow. Love that place.

ya they did UNTIL I got home.....

really how hard is it to find a air leak the that lets ONLY the rear air bags go flat 4-6hr's after you turn the truck off....? Nashville Volvo is getting close to being on the list of dealers I will not take my truck to.......

we'll get down to Laredo in the next week or two and get it fixed right and get our 150gl tank installed...... now we just need to find one for the otherside

You may have algae growing in your fuel ( black and slimy ). Look in your fuel tank with a flashlight. It will be at the bottom. If so get some algae killer. I have used Killem that I got from a truck parts store. I got a Lucus brand at a truckstop and it was ineffective. Killem seems to have some success.

When I worked on the water we used a product called Biobor that worked really well. Check in with marine places a lot of them have fuel scrubbers. They will pump your fuel out of your tanks filter and treat it and put it back in. Some of the dredges I worked on we carried 50,000gal and it was fun when those tanks got contaminated.

Good luck to you guys and hope all goes well with the truck.

Glad to see ur up an running again. Gd luck with her OP. And the marine places have Awsome additives/cleansers to get algae out if tanks. They deal with it on a daily basis. Killem works pretty gd from wut I hear as well
