after graduating from college and still not being able to get a job in my chosen field, it was either drive a truck or work at sprawl mart for slave wages. I don't shop at sprawl mart so I'm definitely not going to work there (for $200/week.)

Like alot of others,my dad was a driver for 43 years, most of it in Alaska. I started driving during the Pipeline. kept at it afterwards. been doing it ever since. beats having to log for the rest of my life. Too old and fat to set chockers anymore and run up and down mtns.:biggrin_2554:

I grew up on a farm and got used to being on my own. I loved working the fields, running the big equipment. I always saw something sort of romantic about the big rigs on the highway. My best times driving were
late at night on an all but deserted highway, no radios on, just the whine of the turbo and tires.

I wanted to be a driver because of the traveling and seeing new things, and because I've got a thing for trucks. Well, I found that I can still have a thing for trucks and be a dispatcher...lol

I wanna be a truck driver because I have alway admired truckers and the trucks especially the flatbedder's. I like the freedom of not having a supervisor looking over me all the time and since Im not much of a people person I think trucking will be good for me. I like my dogs more than I like most people.

Working sucks. You can work as hard, and as smart as you can, you ain't getting paid more and when they don't need you, bye. Having a skill or trade makes work easier sometimes, Trucking is one of those. It don't feel like work. I drive, I rest, I get paid. I have a lot of fun.

DBL THIS. But I still have to talk to dispatch, safety, and every other rude contact at HQ. F#*%'em

Always been a tomboy, always dreamed of driving a truck, since playing in the sandpit as a kid. Finally got CDL at 39 and its the best thing I ever did.

that is just funny I don't care who you are

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

For me I fell into it by accident.

My brother had pushed me for several yrs to get a CDL as a "back up plan". At the time I was an O/O of a ground maintenance business and was not planning on going any where ( hind site is 100/100 and I never should have sold that biz!!!!!!!!!!).

After becoming friends with a guy that was hot shot pulling cars the lure of some thing new and bigger scale grew over whelming and I sold my lawn care biz. Started trucking like this.

Sold that and started doing this as a company driver.

That only lasted a few months and I went to work for this guy.

That only lasted for a few months and in the mean time I had a couple other trucking jobs. Went completely broke and lost every thing but my house in 2003. At the end of 03 my brother offered me a deal. He would buy a truck, I would drive it, he would find the loads and handle all the office work and at the end of 2 yrs I would be a 25% owner of Brickman Transport INC.
    First truck was this one.

30,000 miles later we moved up to this truck.

Spring of 07 my wife finally talked me into sell that truck to our member Broncrider and taking a job that would have me close to home. That only lasted for part of the summer. Along the way I did ....

I can't find any of the pics I took when I was working for an excavation company.

In sept of 07 I started doing this again.

In OCT 07 I did this.

A few days later buy this truck and still driving it.

hey those are some nice pics of my truck.....lol

nice visual graphic's and history on you there brick....cant believe you didnt take any pics of that gorgous ford dump though.....

as for me....i drove in the army ( test drives...lol) and to/from the field..
this was a requirement for my second favorite job as a diesel mechanic...
after i finally figured out it was stupid to have $80,000 in tools, 5 certifications and still only make $13/hr....i got deployed

returned home from that and tried to go back to wrenching...hated it and my new employer...so i hired on as a company driver for this same outfit....that lasted 6 months, then due to family health issues, and my new wife not liking me being gone i got a few different local jobs....and hated them ( with one exception)
finally while laid off for the winter again, and realizing i was tired of starving all winter...i wrote a business plan, met brickman on the phone, went and saw the banker...yada yada yada
    here i am

i love it, my wife loves the money even though im not home enuff for her taste and my kids love ridin in the big truck

all in all im happy trucking until i win the lottery...now where do you buy them tickets???
