I looked into Hillsbros. There lease seems very similar to JCTs. I'm still happy at JCT nearly 7 years after coming over. To clarify I looked into them when I first relocated to Omaha, but in the end couldn't bring myself to leave the good fit I already have found.

I came in as a student, started at .35 per mile, and got incremental raises up to .42 per mile, which happened on my 1 year anniversary.
Best offer I've gotten from anyone else, considering that I'm just under 2 years OTR, is .39 per mile. And the .42 base rate I'm paid does not count the potential .06 per mile bonus pay that I can get if I meet all the right numbers. -
I will say that the mileage based payment is very attractive. Knowing that I can take a week off and not have it completely break me is a huge plus. I just can't get over the .90 per mile pay... the lease guys here at Maverick make 72% of the load pay PLUS FSC, which can easily work out to over $2.00 a mile for the flatbed guys on good loads, and even more on the glass side. If they offered the lease for TCD drivers I'd definitely try it. But every time I use the calculator on the JCT website, the numbers really bother me... There is literally no margin for error, unless there's something big I'm missing. You'd definitely make enough to live fairly comfortably, but not much room for saving money unless you literally live in the truck.

To me, there isn't a lot of difference between a L/O and an O/O... I've owned three trucks during my driving days..
As an O/O, I had truck payments and the rest to pay out every week/month just like a L/O... Took a few years to
save enough money to come up with a down payment and have some left over as a cushion.. That also gave me
time to learn as much as I could in the trucking business..
When I signed on to a company, the last thing I wanted to do was to move my truck to another company, because
that would cost me a lot of money to do so unless you timed it right near the end of the year and let them know
that you didn't want your plates renewed... Guess what would happen to great loads if that happened??
I did that once, and cost me plenty, money and time...
Today, if I were still driving, I would also check into lease purchase, as long as I knew the facts up front, did
my homework and ran a spreadsheet, checked with others doing the same in the company I was looking at...
As a former O/O, I tried to do the same.. I never applied for my own authority, but knew others that did and looked into it..
I really like driving my own truck, and made a good living at it... As a former navy man, being away from home
didn't bother me as long as the money kept coming in.. Longest I stayed out was just over two months..
No matter if you own your own truck, lease a truck, or just drive a truck, you are going to answer to someone..
Anyone in business knows there is always someone to answer too..
Near the end of my trucking days, sold my truck, drove locally for a company and enjoyed my time there too.. -
.58 cpm to the house..minus your SS tax of 12.4 %,minus your Medicare tax of 2.9 %,minus your income tax if any.And no company provided benefits...that will eat your.58 cpm to the house real fast...No thanks..does not sound good at all to LP
-
If Obamacare goes through, your health insurance will cost more than the truck payment LOL.
-
No,he said its called Affordable health care act...
-
Well sure, as long as you don't plan on eating, driving anywhere, having lights in the house, or having the house at all... It's perfectly affordable LOL.
Boy Howdey and 123456 Thank this. -
its affordable to the people that already work the system. But then again healthcare has always been affordable to them
Boy Howdey Thanks this. -
$970 a week? Wow. Course we don't know any particulars about this truck. One big question of mine is how much freedom one is given to spec a lease truck. Can you load it up with tons of options that drive the payment through the roof, or get one that's relatively stripped to keep the costs lower? I'm assuming you basically just pick from what they happen to have at "on the lot" at the moment...I'd want more control over how the truck was spec'ed if I were to sign up for something like that. In truth that would be a large part of the appeal in the first place.
