When I started where I'm at we had 4 semis, only 3 running, 1 6 wheeler, and a couple of vans. 90% of our work was local expedite and my boss is hyperactive. If you've never experienced getting 5 calls for updates in 15 minutes (no joke) you haven't lived! Some of these calls would go like this.... "whats your eta?" "20 min" "why so long?" "I'm 19 miles away and the last 3 are in town" "we'll see if you can get there quicker, they need that stuff now"....

My breaking point was giving an update while departing one customer, headed to the next 35 miles away..... No bs, I got a call 9 minutes later asking if I was there yet.... I turned the phone off without answering the question. ;)

I'm liking your approach. If I were in your boss's shoes I'd be confident you have the right attitude and will be a fine employee.... but that's just me.

Gawd, that brings back nightmare's from my brother's company. The solution was to not answer the phone and his greeting message be, "If I'm not answering the phone it's because I'm following DOT regulations to stay safe while I drive. Leave a message". Cut way down on those calls.

I drove transit before becoming a truck driver. They'll be back in a truck after not to long. The pay is less and the first time they have to clean up a turd from someone ######## in the bus they will be out there.

I do fill in driving with different customers (companies) every week and have only one or two I do regular work for. I got into a habit of having notebooks for each one, in it, it has their delivery locations, what I should have to deal with and so on - on the first 15 or 20 pages, each place gets it own page with notes. Then after that, I have a log of every place I go to in the day with times for arrival and departure. I have had some shop supervisors get upset with me because I take time chaining or it is an hour and a half to load one item and I note why in my book.

These notebooks are actually those pocket books you get for a $1.

Example I get to a regular customer of the place I worked yesterday and they had four trucks in front of me, two of them were their own. I had to wait for the steel hauler to get out of the way so I could park, it was an hour for him to secure and tarp his two pallets of flat stock, he kept going into the truck when the wind whipped up between the buildings. Then I had to wait after I got ready to unload because an expedite shipment came in and just had to be unloaded. I noted everything and the times and hit rush traffic hard on the way back. Everything is noted and I went over everything with the foundry super when I got back.
