We put bio Diesel in our small fleet a few years ago and the filters kept getting clogged and the injectors acted funny in the winter. switched back to regular diesel and problems stopped. Best thing Bio Diesel is good for is an old farm tractor.

I have been using blends from 2% to 15% for at least the last 6 years. I have never had any issues. To be fair here, there is the occasional premature filter plugging issue. This is usually because the bio in question, the glycerin from making it was not properly removed. And there has not been any one station brand that was the culprit. Loves, PFJ, Sapp Bros, Petro/TA, take your pick. I have gotten at least one filter plugging load of fuel from each of them. But then, I run 7 micron filters, and it doesn't take a lot to plug them. And it does seem to be more of an issue, if it is going to happen, in the winter months.

As for the algae problem, that seems to be the hand we are dealt regardless of bio or not. Even ULSD is more susceptible to algae issues. Once a month, I shock dose the tanks with FPPF Killem. Simple, cheap, effective.

If there is any issue I have seen, it is fuel dilution. I run regular sampling, and I get a minor level of fuel dilution from bio. Nothing critical, wear numbers are great. Different engines will be affected differently. Just do those oil samples on a regular basis and track.

It's cost me 7000$! Plus 750 towing. Blend diesel bio diesel.

I was at California with my DD15 Cascadia. I fill it up with blend diesel at Petro. Well... after 150 miles i feel that different. Less power also white smoke and smell like French fries. Because I'm new in this indrusty I had no idea what is going on. So next morning cold start gives me knocking noise. Than I had a feeling one of my injector went out. Right away I add injector cleaner conditioner and two cycle oil to the fuel. It was help a lot. I was ok for another 400 miles. Than I fill it up again from petro. Bio diesel blend. That was killed my injector. My liner went out so I had to tow $1000 plus pay 7000 for fast service. (8days) now I know every month I have to add injector cleaner and conditioner to my truck. Also you should use diesel fuel supplement ! Anyway. I learned. Sorry for my English. Thank you. S

There had to be other issues going on. I have used bio blends between 2% and 15% for most of this century, multiple engines, and not one problem. The fleet I have my truck on with, their company trucks fuel same locations as me. 8 yrs here and not heard of one problem. Detroits, Volvos, Cummins. I have also used bio blends in New Holland ag tractors and a Jeep Liberty diesel. No problem.
