That's because a lot of the formerly good companies like Gstc, van Wyk, Millis, arrow, transam, and others got handed off the owner's greedy kids who only care how much they can squeeze out for themselves, without regard to who they kill or screw over, drivers or otherwise.

I would have told my dispatcher the truck isn't moving - period. Don't care if is costs me 10 hours, if they expected me to drive with any tire flat, they would have been picking up the truck.

I don't get something, you have listed 14 years in this industry but you end up with this company as your first company, did you actually talk to other drivers or just applied and got the job, thinking that's all that has to be done. I think this is why people get trapped or crapped on, they don't actually check out the company or ask questions like "is there any driver's I can talk to about your company?"

Also in the 50's you didn't make a "good" wage, you made a decent living wage. Not all people driving truck was in uniforms or with a tie on, the guy who taught me to drive a truck told me stories about how people dressed and I think he and his buddies only wore ties at weddings and funerals, never in a truck.

I saw a video put together by another gentalman, from actual out the front window footage his dad had taken back in the day, and yes some of the drivers were wearing ties and uniforms. That may have been the exception..... and I was knee deep in cow manure on the dairy farm back then, so I have no first hand knowledge..

To me, there is not much difference between a decent wage and a good wage, because if I made a decent wage, I would think that was good enough....Sorry, just being hyperbolic....I see your point, and stand corrected...

The 14 years listed is because of the maintenance and driving I did for my mom and step dad. Unfortunately, it does not qualify as over the road experience in the eyes of insurance companies because it doesn't include much consecutive time behind the wheel.

One last thing I would like to complain about. When did it become normal practice to drive around truck stops and freight facilities as fast as possible? The short time I spent back on the road I learned that things have changed a lot. I'm guessing by what I saw in the 3 weeks I was out there that it is now a drivers goal to get in to the high side of the transmission while in a parking lot?????

I've been seeing that a lot lately, especially the idiots who can't wait for someone to back into a stop, I mean, really, are you saving that much time racing into the fuel island??

...or how you are so really proud of your Jake Brake, that you use it constantly, even in the truckstop parking lot. Doesn't sound good without some speed!
