I do the same, MedicineMan. My biggest complaint are 4 wheelers that go to pass me, and then get scared halfway through the job. Then they just sit next to me. Very unnerving... what if I need to move for a tight bridge or broken-down vehicle? Don't sit there and envy my load, for it may be in your lap should I need to move!

I like the ones that try to beat you for the same lane.. Especially the ones who try to beat you for the same lane on your blindside.(right) these people all need to be made to drive a truck for a month...

Not a bad idea. I've said for many years that I think everyone should be required to put at least 15,000 miles on a motorcycle over at least 2 years before they're given a car license.

While it's not REQUIRED, it is highly recommended that motorcyclists receive a professional training course, similar to large trucks. I mean, anyone who can pass the written and driving test can get a license, but those who live to tell about it are typically TRAINED.

They'll give any 16 year old a license in Texas if they've passed the written and have a certificate of completion for "Drivers Education" but it's been my experience that they don't receive any education, just a certificate. :biggrin_25510:

Thanks for being courteous. That is always good to see on the road. I have always thought that people should have to ride in the truck for awhile, not drive, they can't drive a 4wheeler how can they drive an 18 wheeler? I also agree that people should be more careful around motorcycles, but I have seen plenty of motorcycles that could use some safety lessons of their own. One time i was driving on Rt 480 east bound near Cleveland, Oh and another truck was passing me. This idiot on his motorcycle pops a wheelie and goes in between the other truck and i. Not the smartest thing that i have ever witnessed!

I know the powers that be have been trying to educate the masses... I've seen the signs on I-75 warning people they will be ticketed if they cut off a truck, and I know there are radio commercials in Ohio and Indiana warning the public of the dangers of travelling too closely to a truck. Just seems like the message isn't getting through to enough people!

I've blocked cars many times for a truck that has his signal on, and no-one would let them over. People have no consideration for others on the road any more, and can't even follow the basic rules of driving. They just don't care. They really need to teach new drivers nationwide, what to do around a truck. It should be a mandatory part of the road test. That would atleast be a start.

As far as the merging traffic thing goes, in my opinion any of you drivers who are changing lanes to "allow" a four wheeler to merge are inviting trouble. I NEVER change lanes or speed when four wheelers are merging, that's their obligation, to MERGE with the flow of traffic on the interstate. I will change lanes if I can safely do so for another truck, Motorhome or anything pulling a trailer, but NEVER for a four wheeler. It should be noted also though that I generally use my cruise control so it is easy for merging traffic to predict my speed and take appropriate action to speed up or slow down. The only exception to this is when I'm driving through a major city with many on ramps and heavy traffic flow, I will usually move one lane to the left of the farthest right lane and maintain that lane until I'm past the congestion.

Not trying to be an incourteous driver, just a safe professional, and I've seen too many near misses and HITS from drivers trying to be courteous and move over only to have trouble with the merging four wheeler or the ones behind him.

You say it's easy to predict your speed, Nuthinspecial, but we are talking about the average 4-wheeler here... the same ones who can't judge their closure rate until they've almost made contact with the vehicle in front of them. C'mon, I think you're being too nice. ;)

HeavyHaulGirl, it's nice to hear that some states are attempting to educate and enforce... I'm still a firm believer that we should learn to enforce the laws we already have rather than create new laws... but I'm no politician.

The average 4-wheeler has been trained to know what to do when they encounter a bicycle, but can't handle that situation, either zipping by at incredibly unsafe speed while IN THE SAME LANE without any buffer zone.

These are the same drivers that pull up to my left (not necessarily entirely in my lane) when I'm on my motorcycle and try to make a right turn while I'm sitting there waiting for a safe break in traffic to do so.

They aren't paying attention to driving... they're paying attention to their cell phone, their donut, their coffee, their radio, their make-up, and everything INSIDE their vehicle, but not the DRIVING that's happening outside...
