DM's at May don't dish out the loads, do they? I believe it's all handled through logistics. Which I why I became friends with the NW logistics manager when I worked there ;-)

So I have been an official driver for almost 6 months now, and the one thing I have discovered is the disrespect and hatred toward drivers. Drivers have to put up with being ignored, talked down to, people being rude to them, and it has no boundaries. Drivers are mistreated from their own companies and almost every shipper and receiver in the nation. The worst part is the disrespect that comes from $8 an hour employees at these large corporations and then make the driver wait 4-5 hours to be loaded/unloaded. Is there anything that we can do about that?

PJ, go work for Marten, many trucking companies have layover pay. I have been told May pays after 4 hours. This is why you get unloaded just before the witching hour. Marten is 1 hour.

Secorp... its not my pay; its dealing with the uneducated, under paid, individuals that drivers have to tolerate everyday. If I show up to pick-up or drop-off a load be polite to me, just like you would your own boss, because if it weren't for drivers they wouldn't have a job, and it just the right thing to do. We are all in the same business lets work together.

The flip side to this argument, is that for every polite driver, I wouldn't be surprised if there were two rude drivers.

I aways try and do my best to be kind and polite with customers. Working in food service for over 6 years, I have seen how rude people can get over the smallest of issues.

You were as happy as a bluebird in Spring a few weeks ago ;-) Trucking related incidents as you described has a way of bringing one back down to earth in a hurry. You haven't even gone through a winter yet either. Just wait...:)
