In the army they'll throw you out the truck while its moving and take over if you screw up around grades.

In the 70s this happened in civilian trucking.

    Today it wouldn't float.

Someone may have said it already. .I didn't read the entire thread. .

Get a pre paid debit/credit card (one you can add money to)..each week put a little money on it in case of an emergency. ..
Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

    Best of luck.

My 2nd trainer she was gay so i really felt kinda uncomfortable at first till she left me at a truck stop in peculiar mo then i was just plain mad after that she wasn't to nice after that she got wrote up for leaving me not to much talking between us in back to uncomfortable but i never disrespected her she didn't teach me nothing all i did was miles for her by driving at night. My 3rd trainer was a snot nosed kid that was about 6 years older than my daughter that was the worse 3 1/2 weeks this boy thought i was cute and decided to hit on me everyday he tried several tactics until i told that boy that i was gonna treat him like my child and beat the #### out of him if he hit on me one more time i guess i had that mother tone after that it was no mam and yes mam some trainers will try and push u to see what your limits are. Just like your trainer will tell u what u expect you will tell your trainer what u expect of him and please remember you are grown just like him/her. If u go in with respect u may or may not get respect back. You will if u have a good trainer. Make sure u come up with system so u don't get left at a truck stop like i did. And take your phone with u each time u get out truck stop the one time i didn't i got left behind. So good luck in yo journeys.

silverdriftner, who are you gonna be working for? I wouldn't be to concerned about getting thrown off of a trainers truck, while it does happen you know how many people are out on the road right now being trained? Thousands... Make sure you have an emergency money set up on a credit card or something in case this does happen... And I wouldn't bring a ton of stuff with you out on the road until after you get your own truck... When I got hired as a student for one of the Mega carriers before I went out on the road we got to mingle with the trainers out on the training pad and at lunch and dinner and what not and I was able to hit it off with one of the trainers who then picked me a his student.... Had a great time with him....Then after I passed my CDL with him it was time for the next trainer "finisher" who right away I knew It wasn't gonna be a match between me and him and it wasn't...After a week I called the fleet manager and told him we needed a load back to the yard that It wasn't working between the two of us... The fleet manager did just that without letting the trainer know anything and when I got back to the yard I packed all my stuff and said "see ya".... boy was he shocked and of course he ran right to the fleet manager telling lie's about me... but anyhow think positive you should be ok.... You'll pretty much know right from the start if your gonna work out with someone and if right away you don't think you will be I wouldn't be scared to mention it the fleet manager or wait for another trainer so that you don't get out on the road and boom start arguing and fighting over stuff when your thousand miles away from the terminal... These trainers that throw students off the truck shouldn't be allowed to train anymore its ridiculous... Good Luck fella

Yea i had to find another swift driver to help me. He called his dm they got in touch with her dm thru several ignored Qualcomm messages she finally came back after 3 hours as far as your laptop u really not gone have time to be on it training because swift rules when i was there was train for 50hrs and the rest of yo hours you will be a team truck and your trainer is gonna make u work 11+ hour days so they can get that 50 out the way it too me 4days within my first week. I was driving team i had to drive at night because she refused to

We'll looks like you will have time to figure out who you would like to work for... Getting your license before getting with a company is a good idea, I wish I would have went that route... Your leg shouldn't be any problem for your physical I wouldn't worry about that to much... I hear ya on the smoking issue I've quit off and on for the past couple of years the longest being almost 6 months... Right now I'm "on" with the smoking LOL... How long is it gonna take you at that CDL school to get it a month? Your work history sounds great that shouldn't be an issue for you at all man.... As for swift I've never worked for them nor would I ever... I'd avoid England if I were you as well... Since you will already have a CDL the company you go with should pay you a training wage every week while your out with a trainer and they normally put it on a com-data card every week so you can have access to the money... Best route would be for you to buy a carton of cigs when you go through cheap states like Missouri or South Carolina it will save you a lot of money... Bringing your Laptop shouldn't be an issue at all there's almost always gonna be down time at some point in time in your training weather it be a break down, bad weather, stuck a ship or receiver for a few hours or just waiting on a reload... plus an hour or so before you go to sleep...
