Years ago on I-80 in Pa, scale shut me down weighing at little over 90k with a scale ticket that showed I was legal coming out of Chicago.

Not hard to do, drag a load of I beams in a ice and snow storm for a while and watch what happens.

Yea i guess...i mean it went from fairly dry wood to soaked wood. I guess your assuming 8 pounds per gallon. I had a a scale ticket for the original weight....DOT could have been off a little on their weight.

    HERE ARE SOME TIPS:
    1. USE AN OLD SMOKE TARP TO COVER YOUR LOAD TARPS IN WINTER. What I do is lay the flap down and put my tarps in fold over them and then straping the bundle to the trailer.
    2. Spraying your tarps with an ANTI FREEZE MIX WORKS (I like RV anit freeze doesn't affect the tarps as bad) stops ice, snow build up and keeps them plyable.
    3. The bed of the trailer while salt/calcium chloride works it tares the trailer up, again I us anti freeze and a good shovel to get the heavy stuff off.
    4. SAFETY: I have a set of ice cleets for my boots when I have to get up on my trailer(not on the load or tarps) this will help prevent some falls and slips
Hope this helps just some things Ive learned over the years, Yall be safe out there

I scaled out and in mty at two places and the weight was around 3500 more than it should be. I'm sure we have seen worse and with a load getting icy I can see it getting crazy with extra weight.

Oh yea, you can pick some serious weight up with just ice and snow and it/they can make your life miserable at a scale for it! Sometimes its worth throwing rags in this weather just to keep the ice off

I had a load to tarp in Casper, WY a couple of weeks ago. It was -25 and the sun was going down when I finally got the load strapped down. I couldnt even unroll my tarps. I drove to the TS and waited till morning and let the sun hit them for a bit. Still took me twice as long as usual to tarp cause they were still very stiff. That and my fingers freezing up. Kept breaking bungies too because of the cold.
