Ear buds.
Nope, never heard anything wrong with <insert mechanical breakdown item> .
Seriously, hearing what's happening with your truck is just as important as seeing.

I don't know how the hell you are gonna hear any "emergency vehicles" when rolling down the highway...
I wear ear buds every day, but only once I merge onto the interstate. When going through town I take em off and roll down the window. -
Man, I know I'm gonna catch flak about this from the other drivers on here- I did it, LITERALLY almost all the time when I was driving teams. (the obvious exceptions apply, when backing, when not on the interstate or a major us/state highway. They'd come out the second I was getting ready to roll off an exit, though.)

Knew this was going to happen...A three year know it all about driving.......It's called PROFESSIONALISM.....there rook....not selfishness....Your eyes are your best info gatherer's you're correct there...but you'll more often than not hear an emergency vehicle long before you see it , even with rolled up windows...anything that is a distraction from your main goal ( read being safe) will one day cause you problems...not a question of "if" but only "when".....drivers got along without all this high tech crap long before it was even dreamed up...shoot used to be able to hear the same AM radio programs all night long...all you needed was the station numbers from state to state...no need at all for this new crap....it causes way more problems than anything else. but I HAVEN'T LEARNED ANYTHING IN OVER 3O YEARS OF DRIVING........
-
Come back in let's say 30 years and prove to me that I wrong....what kept me safe and accident free for over 30 years didn't happen by "accident"...Drive like you want...wear what you want....it's your life....all I know is we didn't have that crap 30 years ago and we all seemed to get along just fine. And BTW with a lot less accidents too.......

I bought the cheapest set of speakers that plug directly into my iphone, they actaully dont work that bad. Sound is decent as long as the battery is good. I do have the JBL Bluetooth speakers for when i work in the garage.

As its been said, get a FM Transmitter the ones that charge your phone at the same time. We can hardly hear a 4 wheeler beeping the way it's now, just imagine it wearing your headphones.
-
Bad idea. Just get a stereo/speakers. For me , with earbuds in, there could be bombs going off all around me and I'll just keep on jamming. Even at a low volume it's still pretty much all you hear.

The law says that you cannot wear anything the COVERS both ears. Therefore ear buds are legal. The emergency vehicles that use sirens are folks that we should have seen coming way before we have to listen to them. Being deaf will not disqualify you from driving. You can wear ear plugs to protect your hearing so why not ear buds. I would bet that in a few years the bose Noise cancelling ear phones will be legal to cut down on the damage done to hearing by the constant road noise.

Really? You're gonna argue semantics on "cover"? The same law applies with motorcycles too. Now if you want to argue cover...anything that blocks the ear canal passage is considered covering. Ear plugs are meant to block an immediate decibel spike while still letting certain decibel levels filter through.
