being a new driver the last thing needed is more distractions..need to be paying attention to your surroundings ..I feel ear buds are bad idea also I feel a blue tooth is not a good idea for a new guy ..way too much going on to be distracted dont need to add to it..get some time under your belt then think about ear buds or blue tooth..

I remember driving in my four wheeler with headphones on medium and nearly running into a firetruck or cop with their sirens on at the intersection. I couldnt hear what was going on plain and simple. I can only imagine a fully loaded truck crushing another vehicle because the driver was wearing headphones.

After a few close calls, I decided that wearing headphones that covers both ears is quite possibly the stupidest thing a driver could do.

This is an interesting quote. All of the firemen and paramedics around here wear headsets.

So many of the older drivers have some form of hearing loos due to the truck noise.

Personally hearing protection is a good idea.

I do not see the issue with ear buds. There are some really nice ones that provide hearing protection and allow you to adjust the volume of the ambient noise and input.

Personally I like to have music as a background. I like to hear the sound of the vehicle. If you hear the sound if the vehicle than you can hear the emergency vehicle or horn.

Yeah, I know earbuds are a really bad idea. According to some here, anything but the sound of the truck is too much for us loser noob's.

I'm looking to break up the monotony in the Montana and Idaho mountains where there are no radio stations.

I used ear buds while i trained but when i got my own truck it was a 07 387pete it did not have a aux port either i went to walmart bought a $40 radio. My company said that they didn't care as long as i didn't cut no wires or alter the truck appearance. I had a professional put the radio in for me. I didn't have to buy no speakers. When i turned that truck in i took my radio out the way they showed me nothin broken i just plugged in their radio made sure it worked and just stuck it in hole told the shop what i did they said they would finish it and i was on to the next one

I drive a company truck. It has a USB port and input jack, but they did not work.

I bought my own radio from bigrigradios.com and swapped it. Just have to remember to put the stock one back when they switch me out to another truck.

I can't believe there is any argument in this topic... Try finding an experienced driver wearing these, or if that doesn't suffice then I suggest you make the argument with your boss. I'm sure he'll tell you sure, you can wear them all the way home on the Greyhound.

In my opinion, anything that could hinder your hearing while driving is a bad idea. They give you a hearing test in your DOT physical for a reason.
