This is kind of a hybrid question. It was suggested that I run a hot wire and ground directly from my batteries to hook up a CB Amp. I did this and now my dash amp meter shows discharge all the way down to 150. It is possible it was showing discharge before but I don't believe so. When I turn the key off and then back on the meter comes up to zero for a second then goes back to 150 discharge, this is with the engine off.
I have had issues with the dash lights before but that required and ECM update and now is OK. Now the fuel gauge drops all of a sudden and comes back up to proper reading. That was going on before I ran the hot wire.
Also I screwed the amp to the passenger side of he floor console. Since then I read on another thread there is a relay behind the cup holder on these trucks, KW W900. I only used short one inch screws so I doubt they could make contact with any thing behind there.
With all of that being said, could one or both of these modification have caused the Amp Meter to drop to discharge.
Thank you for any assistance n this issue.

Does the ammeter act normal when you unhook the kicker? Probably have better luck in the CB section.

That is why I refereed t it as a hybrid question. I know that the best way to tell for sure is to unhook the hot wire from the battery. I may have to do that next week but like most truckers I am looking for the easy way to do this. If I have to I will remove the battery cover and unhook the wires and try the amp meter before I put the battery cover back on.

What kind of ammeter? Is it OEM or some aftermarket car ammeter?
I put one in according to factory wiring diagram and it's different than just putting one in a car.
Mine has a shunt that is basically a rectangular piece of flat stainless that is rippled like a Ruffles potato chip.
Have you unhooked the neg cable at battery and put a light bulb to make the connection to see if there really is a drain? Electricity actually flows out the neg terminal and returns via pos terminal. -
The amp meter is right from the KW factory and is the factory installed original.
