Happy Thanksgiving drivers. If you didn't get a chance to get home drive safe. This will be a crazy weekend.

Can't remember if this has been asked or not. Does Millis pay detention pay? Do they still have Volvo's in there truck stock? Yesterday I saw a Volvo going down I-24 east bound side in chattanooga.

Yep we get detention pay but to be honest I couldn't tell you the amount because I haven't sat long enough to get it in so long. And we have two volvos in the fleet I believe, both automatics.

So in my time with Millis and with my current company, I've been to all 48 continental states, been up and down mountains, had white knuckle oh crap oh crap oh crap moments, been in traffic in every major city. It wasn't till coming out of Denver on I25 north that I have had a moment that so scared me I had to pull over and decide if I could continue driving. I saw a Werner truck pulling a Swift trailer. Truly scary.

So how long would you have to be detained before qualifying for detention pay? Are the Volvos used by drivers or for another purpose? Since you hardly see them.

TO my knowledge there are only 2 Volvos, assigned to guys in Wisconsin, most likely because of their proximity to BRF and Volvo dealerships for their data collection/etc. Last I knew it is highly unlikely Millis will replace their KW's anytime soon with Volvo trucks because at the time Volvo was not willing to offer trade ins on the KW's and the curb weight of the Volvo bobtails were more than the KW's, which affects their total payload capacity. (Budweiser likes to scale Millis out with 47k of beer, 79k gross). Detention is case by case, it is supposed to begin 2 hrs AFTER a firm appointment time, for example a 1400-1400 (2pm) appt., assuming u arrive ONTIME (late arrival will negate detention pay altogether), at 4pm and every hour AFTER 4 pm u will be compensated at the agreed upon amount from the Shipper (usually 12ish/hr). Now if you have a 24 hr p/u or del, u are most often NOT eligible for any detention pay except in very rare scenarios, usually glass plants and paper mills do not pay detention (hence the 24 hr appt times). Occasionally there may be a situation where an exception is made, for example I sat at a glass plant for 18 hrs once and received nothing on a 24 hr appt, I sat at a paper mill for 18 hrs and received my avg/daily pay ($180ish at the time). So its truly a case by case situation, but they are pretty good about keeping the trucks moving and don't often deal with too many places that hang their trucks up. Grocery warehouses are notorious for detention, especially leaving you on a dock for 1hr 45 mins then hustling it all off before det. pay kicks in, so are many of these shippers/receivers, although sometimes machines malfunction and in those cases of detention you will usually see some $$$. In all honesty, after 7 years with Millis, I probably sat with the NO Load Available message far more often that I sat detained at a dock.

I think you were trying to say about the detention pay if the appointment is at 4pm, 2 hours later you could get the pay, based what you said right before that anyway. Unless I misunderstood and thanks.
