Got a choice,I live in the Okanagan and trying to make a decision on what school I should try to get into.

    Mountain Transport Intitute-
    Certified by CTHRC,Acreditted by PCTIA.
They have the Earning Your Wheels programs which in the eyes of some insurance providers and some trucking companies, you gain 2yrs experience.I do like the fact that you get mountain training.
I talked to them and it sounds like an extremly thorough program

Question is,does anyone feel this program gives the new guy a bit of advantage over a graduate from a regular PCTIA acreditted school?

    Thanks for any advice!

There is a cople another schools in your region and they look good too.
For ex., Columbia Transport College of the Cariboo in Kamloops.

I just graduate from the school in Manitoba and get my first job as a "student trucker", and I can tell you for sure, there is not a one single school that REALLY gives you "2 years of experience".
I would not get involved in the game between trucking and insurance companies.
When choosing driving school, look at length and contents of the training the equipment they provide, talk to people, or even hang around (if you have a chance) and watch what they do.
And remember - "you have what you paid for".
All the best possible luck to you.

Thanks for replying, and congratulations on the job.

My only concern is getting good training & job.
The whole insurance/experince thing is something I got off a school website.
Tuition costs difference between a PCTIA accedited school and school with the "earning your wheels "program is quite significant.
I'll check out the school in Kamloops.

What do you believe a person should pay for good training?

Well... I paid 4300 for 8 weeks (3-classes, 5-cab) and honestly DO NOT regret about it.
BTW, when selecting th school look how many people they normaly have in the class and how many trucks they have. This "ratio" directly affects YUOR "behind the wheel" time.

In my opinion take the training if you are going to do the west coast B.C., Washington and California. I have regular CDL training and I have refused runs for the fact I don't have mountain experience. People I have talked to say the west coast mountains are not to be taken lightly. If you take the training I would put that in big bold letters on your resume.:biggrin_25519:

Thanks for your feedback. It a school looks like too good of a deal it usually is. Often you get what you pay for. Good luck!
