Is it easy to find drop and hook loads? Is there an area in the country that has low dead head for drop and hooks? I'm not interested in loading or unloading. I would like to run only drop and hooks. Is it better to be regional to run this way? Any opinions on my preference would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Yes, but who is it T/A and how strict is it? My truck is a 2006 freightliner Columbia 850k on her runs great..Just things like small airleak 2nd tank gets drained overnight, stuff like that..I get passed through the 90 day no problem with the company I'm leased onto now.

You go anywhere and get it inspected. They don't hold up your orientation for that. they assume that it is good enough for them coming into the system. Once you are in the system, you have your biannual inspection at places they select or if you get a level 1 with a sticker, that counts and resets the counter for another biannual.

BUT a warning about those inspection places, always watch them do the inspection. A few places have passed my truck with some defect that the inspection is supposed to catch and I got dinged with the violation the very next day.

Good to know,ty for the info. Also got L/S recruiting package. They pull loads as examples from load board.Rates were decent as compared to what I get now.As I understand it, newer drivers will work the board and acquire stars/forming relationships with agents. After a yr or so better loads/rates will call on the driver. Is this acureate? My cpm is .74 so if true I can weather that scenario. Thanks for info

You wont be waiting a year for the better loads if you market yourself to them. Learn how to use the Landstar tools on the load board to your advantage, call the agents or email them whatever it takes. I leased on in July and used the boards three weeks then picked up a dedicated run.

A couple other things, the first one is that you need to get a list of agents and work off of them. many BCOs send out little 'hello' cards or emails while others make a list of the busiest or agents who have good freight and get on the phone with them - you can always get this info from operations. Then start working those by talking to them regularly. Better rates don't come with time but vigilance.

The second thing is always have do not haul list, these are agents you never haul for because of personal or business reasons. One BCO may haul for XYZ agent and have great results but another would never haul a load for them at $100 a mile because of something that happened.
