Probably wise.. something happened.. the WORST thing that happened is that the driver ignored the first letter and waited to long to react to the second and there is no wiggle room or second chances.. the state couldn't care less if you have or keep your CDL or not.

Actually just did mine a few days ago when I was home.
It was not busy when I went in.
Cost me $2 and took like 5 minutes. -

I guess my question is how can someone who has been driving for 50 years fail the test 3 times???? Anyway, called the DMV Monday morning they said my CDL was still valid. Sent an email and left a mvoice messasge with the state Monday morning and have not heard back a word. I am thinking also that since I obtained the card the day before the other expired I am good. I guess it took the 3 days to retrieve my fax!!

Colorado is doing this, too. As of next year, if you don't have your med card on file with the DMV, you lose your CDL instantly. What's annoying is you can mail in or fax your info and you never get any sort of confirmation that your file is updated. The only reason I know mine went through is I pulled my MVR after finding out I'm being laid-off in December. My med card is now part of my MVR.

I had this issue. I went in in Feb. of Last year and gave them my new card they said thank you. They took Photo copy of it. So fast forward as my old one befor that expired in April of Last year. Someone stole my wallet in I think it was July I Called DMV to get new license told me to bring in my stuff. This is Illinois mind you so bare in mind with the idiots. I take in my stuff then they tell me my birth Certificate is not good. I was born in Indiana and they have 2 forms of Birth Certificates one is Laminated like the size of your SS card. I told them that is what they gave me. Not good enough so I drive all the way to Fort Wayne Indiana mind you its over 300 miles. Get new one drive all the way home yes because it would of taken them 3 weeks to get me one threw the mail. Get the right one in there eyes Birth Certificate. Then they tell me my license is Suspended since I didn't have my Physical card on file no not downgraded suspended since last year when I was driving Semi dump truck and what not. They said they sent out mail I said never received anything of that nature. They said tough.
So I asked can I get a regular Drivers license they proceeded to tell me no not with out a Physcial card. So I called the place where my last Physical was They proceed to tell me I need Photo ID to get that info. So I spend another 20 Dollars to get a Photo ID thanks goodness for my form dd214 or they wouldn't of given me one lol. Drive 40 miles to the place get the card go back to the DMV give it to them they unsuspend my license then give me a regular one mind you another 20 bucks. I said no I had a CDL license they said I needed to take the Exam all over again and it would be 50 bucks or 60 cant remember so I say screw it do the exam no driving required as in Illinois you just need to prove you driven one befor in the last 5 years I think it was for a year. So all in all took 3 days to get mine back and about oh lets say 2-300 Dollars.
EDIT: The suspension don't stay on your record it was like you just didn't have license. Funny part was I was pulled over in December of Last year and Officer didn't say anything to me about license suspended so who knows maybe the people at the DMV was pocketing the cash.
