Well you need an inverter if your truck does not have an apu. A fridge or large cooler a microwave would be nice too. You want to keep your expences down while your on the road. It is and can be very expensive when living out of a truck

 

Depends on what you're doing and what your company allows. I would say a good power inverter wired to the batteries and properly grounded is essential. A laptop is very helpful. Beyond that, everything is for creature comfort. A Television is good for those long breaks and down time when waiting for loads. If you have room and a strong enough inverter a microwave is good to heat up can food when you just can't get to a restaurant or want to save a little money. If you have a gaming console those help pass the time.
When you run OTR and spend any amount of time away from home, your truck becomes your home. So anything that makes life more bearable is a good choice.

 

if you have the inverter get a crock pot cook while you drive. just use small bungee cords so you don't spill. a bag of dried beans can go a long ways. good way to save money.

 

If you have an APU then you have a wider choice of options, but if you're handy at cooking then I would strongly recommend a truck fridge instead of a thermocooler. Much better option to keep food cool. And you can add small appliances for cooking too, including a small oven. It's a matter of experimentation and what works for you. Drivers like me go the whole hog and splurge on all kinds of electrical items. Others are not as adventurous. It's all up to you.

a plug in inverter wont run a microwave

 

The TV/DVD combo will work from a plugin inverter but not a microwave as the previous post mentioned. Best go for at least a 1000 watt inverter hard wired to the batteries. Don't overload an inverter. Best to go with one that will entertain the power well within its means. Make sure also the cables are a good thickness. And also install a fuse between the inverter and the batteries. Amazon sells them.
