I am just starting out and have been otr for the past month. I know all about the recap and my 70. my question is I am going to be working 5 1/2 on and 1 1/2 off. so I start on a Monday morning and finish sat afternoon. I get all that. but what if I take a Monday off and start on a tuesday? does that mean I have to work off my recap the second week? or does it go off of when I started my 34 hr restart on Saturday?

You didn't mention but are you on elogs? If you are then elogs will calculate it for you. It will give you the next 34 hr restart right there on the screen then you can work around that for your time off.
newguy814 Thanks this. -

reason I ask is because I took today off to go get my hazmat endorsement. so im not in the truck today and was curious if I needed to watch my hours this week coming up for next week or not to worry because it will reset next monday

Good deal. Then no point sweating it and trying to figure it out as you would have to do with paper logs. I'm only referring to QComm which I run with and the date is set for the next restart, automatic without me trying to guess or get my calculator out. Just remember its 168 hrs from the start of the last 34 hr restart. You just have to work around that and enjoy your days off.

ok. one last question.. does the 168 hr rule kick in when u log back on duty or when u r eliglable . like for example 5 am Monday morn?
-
You will qualify for a 34 hr restart next Monday morning at 5am. The 168 hr rule "clock" starts ticking 5am Monday morning the moment you complete the 34 hr restart, regardless of the time you actually come back on-duty.
DoneYourWay and newguy814 Thank this. -
awesome. thank u so much

Is there any way to work 7 days per week without ever having to take a 34 hr restart?
-
Yup 8-8 1/2 hours a day on duty. Gives you a little uh oh time for traffic and weather
