QUOTE:>>In my opinion TXDoT dropped the ball again.

You mean the two sanding trucks they do have from the 70's couldn't cope? :biggrin_25523:

I realize that Texas isnt really prepared for this type of weather, but I saw very few trucks/equipment trying to clear the roads. The roads are in bad shape and dont really need to be. TXDoT could do much better.

    I'm going to defend TXDoT...
How many storms a year like this do we get?
    Three? (average)
I don't think it's worth the taxpayer's expense to equip a state with a bunch more trucks, drivers and dispatch points just for a few days inconvenience.
Sometimes it's just better to take a deep breath and realize the world won't end if your load takes an extra 2 days.

Oh, I fully understand that. Its not worth the expense of the equipment. And I understand thats why the area shuts down at the mention of bad weather, because we just arent prepared.

Its just that TXDoT talks big that they will be out working the roads at the first sign of the weather coming in, but you never see them. TXDot has enough equipment that they should be able to clear the major hwys such as 35, 30, 20 but they arent passable. I used to drive a tow truck so I was always out in this weather. Never saw them then either.

Agreed, I lived in Plano TX for 6 years and as a taxpayer I would have been PO'd if I saw a fleet of ploughs and spreaders sitting idle year after year. Just poking the TXDOT with a small stick.

My complaint with TxDot was the Area manager on the news program who said the trucks should get off the highways so the workers could clear off the ice.
If the trucks could move, i'm sure they would love to get off the roads. And where would they all park??????

Interesting little tidbit, Hubby was running up in Iowa, Illinois & Ohio last week. Almost had the front of his truck taken off by a Stevens driver at a toll plaza. Evidently the driver got 'tunnel vision' headed for the EZPass lane & didn't check his/her mirrors. If the right lane hadn't been clear so Hubby could move they would have met 'by accident'. I can't remember the complete truck number, but it was 123xx. Tried to get him to call Safety, but he didn't really have time to sit on the phone waiting for his call to be answered. From what he has told be about the Stevens' trucks he has seen on the road, the quality of students hasn't improved since we left.

Also, Emulsified, who do I need to contact to be taken off of Recruiting's mailing list??? Really tired of receiving all the emails asking us to 'Come back home' when they didn't even try to keep us from leaving!!

Recruiting's mail is like so much other spam.
I get emails still from Schneider, and I drove for them a very short time before the internet!
I think it's easier to get off the 'enlargement' spam emails than a recruiter's.

    TRKRSHONEY Thanks this.

Our quality of students reflect the general education of the country.
Truck sitting on the side of the road with no fuel. I called to verify the QC:
"Driver are you really out of fuel on the side of the road?"
    "yes"
"why didn't you get fuel before you ran out?"
"my optistop hadn't come up yet."
"didn't you read your fuel guage in the last 500 plus miles?"
    "yea...it says I have a 1/3 tank."
"OK, I need you to stick the tanks. This may not be a fuel issue."
(a few minutes later) "OK, I have a little over 3" on each side."
"OK, guess you're out of fuel. We'll need to get the guage repaired as well."
Later I got a call from RR. "The driver was reading his oil pressure guage."
Yup! we have the great ones!
