Trying to learn about load boards, the problem is the load boards won't allow you to view prices and stuff for loads without becoming a member.A free trial doesn't do me any good because I don't have authority to register on. Internet truck stop has a demo and appears to have lots of loads but without knowing pay per mile its pretty much useless and doesn't teach me anything. Say I am picking up a flatbed load no tarp at denver going to nashville which is 1150 miles what can I expect to get paid per mile on a load like that roughly?

Load boards will not give you rates and the few that are posted is not a true picture of the market.

Lack of experience will get you into financial trouble real fast in this industry.

Yes, Very few companies post up their rates and the ones that do normally post them way lower than what the freight will move for.

So do I try to negotiate the rate or just accept what they say? How do I know I'm gonna get payed for shipping it?

    1. Find load
    2. Ask what they are trying to move it for, if the LH is cheap which it will most likely be you have to use your negotiation skills. If it's a broker load expect to get the famous " That's all i have in this load" excuse. Just try and work your magic, sometimes the load you want isnt meant to be, it takes a long time to learn how to do this part of the business the driving is the easy part hands down. DON'T HUAL CHEAP brokers remember you and they will remember you by the guy that will haul there cheap freight.

    big belly Thanks this.

View attachment 59100 Here you go dude i did a search for you like your example above Denver, CO to N-ville, TN Flatbed. Searched within a 400 mile radius from Denver for a load on Flatbed and there isn't nothing. And on a 1150 mile trip id try and get at least $2200 MIN but thats just me .

So you are trying to no do much less than $2 a mile min. Can one make a living just getting loads from the boards? I would think its better than using a broker. Saves money. At least it looks that way.

You can make a living but its not the best way its tuff using brokers all the time most are liars not all but most. You wanna try and get direct shippers that's how you make all the money on the load, there is no cut for anyone like that. You have to sit down and do your own cost per mile sheet and see what you need to survive then set your min on the rates. I don't know what you do now im gonna assume a co driver if you get a truck id lease on to a company to learn the business then go independent when you ready. I was with landstar for two years before i got my own athority and im gad i was i learned so much there. Being independent is all business calls calls calls and emails.
