I think there are instances of newbeeitus that everyone gives you a pass on. And then there is blatant stupidity from people that should never be put behind a steering wheel. I just couldn't handle a job like Emuls, It would cost me too much in airfare to keep flying out and smacking these guys across the back of the head.

When I was with Stevens we pulled some Petsmart loads from their fish warehouse in Columbus.

Hey Flue, I hope you don't think I like to pick on newbies.
We've all been there and have some pretty great (??) stories we could tell.
Somewhere I think I posted the story on how I had to pay a crane operator to fish my trailer out of Elliott Bay...so I have no room to speak.
But I tell these stories for two reasons:
To remind each of us of some things we take for granted in our day to day operation (and creeping bad habits that may be developing) as well as a heads up for newer drivers regarding things to be aware of and learn.
I don't intend to insult most drivers.
But honestly...ask yourself...do you watch your fuel guage? We all (hopefully) learned to watch our gas guage when driving a car. I'm flabbergasted at how a driver can travel over 500 miles and not see his fuel (oil) guage change.
I'm amazed at how so many drivers can't find their shoes without Jill giving them step by step instructions.
Or turn down a dirt road in the middle of Kansas because their qualcom told them that was the way to the Bronx. (yes, they knew they were turning down a dirt road!)
I never have become impatient with a driver (other than myself) who takes 10 minutes to back into a space at the TA. I'd rather they got out 10 times and looked than take off someone's (or my) front fender.
And sometimes these stories help the newbies relax a bit. (I know I'm bad, but not THAT bad!)
I try and never forget my first year. Never forget from whenced you came!Corporal_Clegg, Rattlebunny, flue and 4 others Thank this. -
Finally! Some good weather.
No...obviously I'm not in the NE. I've got a FedX load out of Cali, heading to FL.
Powers that be must be desperate.
I'm a solo.
Figure I can make Texas before they find a team to finish this run. But in the meantime, it's spherical objects to the walls!
Gotta make hay while I can.
How's everyone else doing?capper17 Thanks this. -
Well made it back to the yard around 330 and they had me hooked up with a new trainer by 5. Even though I have to catch another early flight I am thankful they were able to keep me moving....

Emul.....I don't think any of us newbies feel like you were picking on anyone. I know I appreciate all the good information you and all the other experienced drivers pass on every day.

Just got clipped by a guy at the receiver. Guy had two spaces between us and still hit us. Yay.
Corporal_Clegg Thanks this. -

Emulsified, no I dont think that. Your stories tend to be guideposts of what not to do. I was actually posting in response to someone elses post.
I tend to have a low tolerance for negative crap that serves no purpose other than just being negative.
Your stories arent negative. They could be, but you have never posted something with contempt, and with the volume of material you get, making that choice is commendable.Crazy_Aardvark and Corporal_Clegg Thank this.
