Well when we hurt in the business of trucking, we hurt in our everyday life styles of going to the store and buying dairy, and other food products for way more, it hits us both ways. We understand why the price of milk has gone up and etc... but hitting us in our very own business and in our living needs, what else is there to do......

I've pretty much resigned myself to being a company driver again.

Had the price of fuel stayed at $3 I probably could have pulled this gig off, but where its at now has slowed shipping down as well as the price of fuel cutting any profit at all out of what I'm getting paid.

I think its only a short matter of time until I simply cannot run any longer. Last week was slow, this week is going to be slow, started out good, but has already tanked. Week before that was good, just over $7000 gross for 6 days of work. Week before that was bad, less than $2000 gross and the week before that was worse.
I've got around $10,000 gross receivables on the books, off of that comes 20% to the company, $642 equipment payment, and $250 insurance A WEEK. Until yesterday I hadn't paid myself in 2 weeks, and this week was only enough to cover the house payment and cell phone bill.

If the owner wasn't advancing me some fuel money I would not have been able to go any where this week.

    It doesn't look too promising.

i have already been talking to some of my good customers and the agents that I feel are playing on the up and up and surprisingly the agents have stated that its about time, the customers aren't stupid either the good ones know that the industry needs to do something .
I had one agent today that i talked too and he stated that he cannot get anyone to go to the east coast period he ask me if a strike has started, and this is one of the good ones, he ended up turning 5 loads back to the customers because he could not get anyone to cover them. he is just hoping that whatever happens happens soon and gets over soon so he doesn't lose a lot himself,

i've just read this thread every page every post - i think there needs to be a shut down over these fuel prices - i paid 4.19 today - i am a company driver for a small fleet 3 wreckers 2 tractors and lowboys and the dump trailer i pull - as with one of the last posters i have a good arrangement with the companies i pull for and am getting $3 + per mile and fsc and when i figure my pay it comes to Approx $20 - $22 per hour - not bragging just stating facts - i do know that the fuel is freakin ridiculous and has many people on the edge of ruination and if a strike or shut down over fuel is organized i'm in

this is the most real statement I have heard today. Basically it needs to be done and it needs to be done NOW. If everyong just shut up and did it. CHances are a week wouldn't kill ya but bleeding slowly for months and onths will make sure none of us recover

We have some customers, well the owner of the places we ship to, disagrees with paying stop offs to his 3 different stores. I am guessing after next week he may change his mind when he isn't getting nothing.
