I pull a pneumatic sand can. Typical load weigh is 50,000lbs. To blow off the load takes me 1 hourish. I have seen the same kind of trailer about the same amount of weight and hoselength. That driver blows off faster than me. I’m not big on racing but I amlooking for better ways to unload 30/50 sand. 10 psi in the can, 20 feet of hose, 13 rpm onthe cruse, 8 inch pump. Front to back,hopper1, hopper2, hopper3.
    Hopper 3 13:minets, hopper2 43:minets, hopper1 17:minets. I open H3 full and use H2 to get my pressurewhere I need it. 12-13 psi. Any ideas?

There are variables depending on the equipment but you need to get your "top pressure" higher than 10 psi to get unloaded faster. since the #2 bin can empty more of the total load a lot of folks start with that hopper first and get the pressure high as possible but you have to have a good stout blower that can handle that.

I normally unloaded middle 1st. Then it depended on who we were working for. If I knew the jerks were going to have me bounce to another hole I would do front. Never want to stop up with that one still containing product. Could use it to clean out if needed. Pressure depended on customer as well. Some would say do not exceed 8 or 10 lbs. Others were fine w/15lbs. Just have to play w/ it . Had one guy who unloaded all 3 at same time. Was like a chef. Always moving from one to another and fine tuning them. He could unload in 20 minutes some times. Big blower and many yrs of practice. Tried it a few times and wound up stopping up lines.

I've recently come upon a great opportunity in sand hauling. Do you know of any owner/operators with the equipment or O/O
with just a tractor but has a PTO? O/O time is valuable and I know this. Any serious responses will be followed upon. Please provide contact info.

I never unload sand at 10 psi, never. Second it does not matter which hopper you unload first as to tank pressure. I agree I normally unload the center first because it makes the final clean out a little quicker. Cement, lime stone, any powder type product 12-15 psi, Sand depends on the size for the time it takes more than higher pressures. But I normally keep my tank around 15. I use my product valve flow, With sand I normally run my line air full open. I have a Garner Denver Rock Blower, pto drive. I run it at 1100 rpms.

I don't have experience with sand so my tips might not provide any time savings. When you are getting to the last few tons in the hopper add some top air to try to compress the sand down as their isn't as much weight pushing it down.

When you finish a hopper do you close off your bottom air and repressurize the tank or do you just switch your aerators and open the next product valve. If you do the latter it takes longer for the tank to build pressure back up and the higher pressure you have the faster the unload.

I unload in the 12-13 range. At 15PSI the release valve kicks in but under 10 the speed drops off quite fast.

As my friend said" the longer the hose, the longer it goes". If im in the mud i will unload from the back first in the outside chance that i have to move or leave with product. All that weight in the back and little on the drivers can leave you spinning in place waiting for someone to pull you out. For pressurjng up it doesnt matter which hopper you are on, ever. 13 will get you unloaded much faster than 10. If you can find a trailer that still bears the instructions they will tell you 14 is normal offload pressure. You can plug up quick at that pressure if you are not careful. The higher the pressure the more prop is abused and it can degrade the grain size a little(thats why you cant auger it) especially resin coated. In combination with the dust you have a situation where the sand coordinator wants you to blow-off at a lower pressure like10 psi. I personally go with the 12-13 like the rest. Its good to be consistent because when the engineer anilyzes his results he can make adjusments for the next one based on a 12-13 psi blow-off that we all do. Thats real science not theory.
