I am about to buy a volvo 670 with ishift. I have narrowed it down to two with a few different specs. One has economy mode only the other with economy or performance mode. I drive locally around the city and half the time regional. I am a mover I gross no more than 65000 at most. My question is would I be missing out not having performance mode? Are there those on here who use economy mode exclusively? Would like some feedback.
Economy mode vs performance mode ishift

It depends on the year of your engine and transmission, I do have I-shift in my truck 2007 with eaton transmission, you have to take it to a dealer or someone and has a computer program to get inside the transmission to change what you want. Like which gear to start out in, economy mode/performance mode/economy performance mode combo, fifth or sixth gear coasting there's a lot of options. You can change the shift points, you name it, everything could be changed.

things are simple. In economy mode TCU keeps engine is most fuel efficient RPM and torq and you feel like engine is gutless. In P mode engine RPM are generally in top power/torq range. Less fuel milage but keeps engine in more powerfull mode.

Either one will probably work.
My understanding is that the "basic"(economy mode only) shifter does not have manual shift buttons either. Personally, I wouldn't care for that limitation. From your post it sounds like you will be the driver, so you will have to decide what limitations you are willing to accept. If there are not any major differences between the two trucks(price, miles, overall condition) I'd go with the truck with the "premium"(economy, performance, manual) shifter. -
BTW, in Europe they do not offer basic shifter, all are with P/E button

Thanks for insight. Kinda of like buying a fancy phone. Buy it for all the things it can do then end up only using it for the basics of talking and taking a few photos. I did end up buying the ishift with economy mode only. I will probably wish I had performance mode at times but I will live with it. Guys I have talked to say they do not ever use the manual mode really. I figure one less electrical or mechanical device in something like the gear shift box (such as performance mode and manual mode) maybe less chance of failure down the road. Obviously having more options is nice though

aniway manual boxes are much more reliable....

If your talking manual trucks Pablo-ua I agree. I was talking about the ishift. The ishift with 3 different modes vs the ishift with 1 mode. No one buys the ishift for manual mode that I am aware of. If your primary use is for economy mode having the other two options and switching over to both those options at times could increase the chance of having issues in terms of how the truck reads things. So much computerized and electrical things going on with trucks nowadays sometimes having less is better(if your not planning on using the other modes that much). Not saying that from experience just a thought...

I also wondered what are the chances of having manual mode on an ishift would that increase the likelihood of a void warranty caused by driver abuse if the driver was not using the manual mode properly. If something happened to your tranny and you had economy mode only with no manual mode options i would assume the chances of claiming driver abuse by the dealer would be less likely?

The economy mode only version is for fleets. Takes the driver out of the equation when it comes to shifting. That is the point of an automatic versus manual transmission.
