I'm not putting down your figures, but someone would have to prove those savings to me with equally maintained tires, equally maintained trucks and trailers, same driver on same loads under same conditions. I just can't believe those ugly singles can save that much money.

SS were tried to be pushed onto the industry twice in my driving career, not counting this current trend. It seems every 10-12 years they reappear, then go away when companies realize the real cost of running them is higher than properly maintained duals.

I'm a believer -- I've seen 4 new trailers with duals so far. I wonder if the ICs will get a bump in fsc to compensate?

New tax may get them the bump but i would be surprised if they get it for new tires.

don't need to prove it. A ss has better rolling restatices then duels. Run ur tires at 110 and u get better fuel mill age too

Now let someone like me Chime in.

Super singles vs. Dual tires The DEBATE. To me their is NO debate.

Savvy business folks like myself want to see savings RIGHT NOW....Not a year down the road. I dont care that Super singles can save me 6,000 a year in fuel expensives.I Dont see it helping RIGHT NOW.

I buy my tires at a DISCOUNT when I find it... (Many times its on the street thru a third party)....

Same with Parts....I buy parts on sale or if i see a 'good' deal somewhere...Whether I need this Part now.or not. Eventually I'll need it.

Again Folks...Savvy Business wants to see costs cut TODAY..Not tomorrow. in Trucking,Their Might not be a 'tomorrow'

    thats my 2 cents

Interesting. Once again, we have rookies singing praises and those with real experience being doubtful. I guess what you hear on XM radio and hear from others in the truck stops outweighs practical experience.
    I'll keep my duals, thanks.

    dumb A Student here.

I would not agree that ignoring long term saving makes you Savvy in business BUT recognizing numbers that are certain to be, and ones that only valid under certain circumstances is being Savvy.

While I have zero experience in trucking, I do have a lot of financial experience. $6,000 a year in fuel saving would not only be an immediate saving, that is saving right now, it would also be a massive competitive advantage. Any company could set its price $5,000 a year below its competition and still make a higher profit.

So why isn't there piles of discarded Duals in the junk yards? The numbers I find for SS's are extreme, 4-6% fuel saving, 1 ton weight saving, 50% tire labor saving (Michelin web site) . I simply can not believe these are Normal numbers, these have to be perfect world numbers vs worst world numbers. If I'm to believe these number are legit in daily operations, explain to me why companies running duals haven't gone broke with the cost disadvantage.
