You can be off duty in a parked commercial motor vehicle per rules passed almost 2 years ago.

Was the truck parked on the road or not?

Saturday it took me 7 hrs from Dallas to Sherman. Had to stop multiple times for backups. After 77 miles I said to hell with it, joined the party at Wal-Mart in Sherman.
    Left there Monday Am.

If people are gonna keep defending these companies/shippers/receivers who "don't care" what happens to the drivers, then no whinging that there's a shortage of drivers. Drivers aren't cops or firemen or Navy SEALS. "Comes with the job' doesn't excuse risking people's lives for STUFF, esp when the load doesn't get there ANYWAYS. It's that 'screw you' attitude is why I got out of it (among other reasons), and I don't miss it even a little bit. Hanging out here just confirms I made the right decision, and my wife agrees. Too many people are getting hurt or worse out there, and the response from some people is 'meh'. No, NOT 'meh'. Human life comes before profits, contracts, or your stupid schedules. If people cannot see that, then the trucking industry deserves everything it gets. The rest of us can have the same 'screw them' attitude. It's not a monopoly.

No one has the right to put other people at risk. Period, discussion over. You androids who just go along, I hope you end up in a ditch with no help in sight. Karma's a ######.....

And I'd love to see how someone defends it by saying human life is NOT that valuable. Go ahead. Show your stripes, like it's not obvious by now. Long as it's not YOU, right?

Gee, why is there a driver 'shortage'? Tis a mystery.

And "God" is supposed to 'bless' this crap? Do NOT blaspheme that way. God isn't even CLOSE to being okay with this.

JUST ANOTHER GOOD REASON TO STAY OUT OF THE SOUTHERN STATES IN THE WINTER. RATHER STAY UP NORTH IN THE WINTER WITH EXTREME COLD AND LOT'S OF SNOW. AND THE STATES PREPARE FOR WINTER WEATHER. TX,OK,AR, AND OTHER STATES KNOW THEY GET ICE STORMS BUT YET THEY DO NOTHING IN ADVANCE. BAFFLES THE MIND!:biggrin_25510:

and what would you have them do? spend millions on equipment and supplies that quite frankly may never be used? how bout this instead. is the road bad? then park. stand up to your dispatcher/broker and say nope, not gonna move the truck. or maybe they could fine all the drivers that cause accidents because they drove in it and use that money to pay for all the equipment to take care of future storms.

from super truckers that say "i can drive in anything" to newbies that feel forced to drive regardless of the situation, it wasn't just Texas DOT that couldn't handle the storm.
