When the brakes fail because they freeze up and you run into a bus load of kids killing a few, the lawyer who is handling the case for the families suing you and your company can also drag into the lawsuit your boss who can now be taken to the cleaners legally for that stupid attitude thanks to this thread.

I'd drain my air tanks despite what the boss said, be thankful for the money I make despite it all, and quit complaining.

After reading your posts Mr Ed, seems to me your boss is more concerned with pulling rank and enjoying the power of his position than in actually doing an effective job. While you have excellent pay and benefits, you are also putting your career and public safety on the line any time you follow your boss's directions.

One approach might be to write a memo to him, noting the date and time you had the conversation and his explicit instructions. If he asks why you wrote the memo, just tell him you want it on file in case any brake failures result in lawsuits so you can protect yourself from liability as much as possible. You might "cc" the memo to someone else so he can't just "round file" it so it isn't in the company records, perhaps "cc" it to your lawyer for example.

It's complaining with a point behind it, read what ridgeline had to say^^^This whole situation is going to cost someone dearly, either in death, injury or prison time,Won't be me , i'm a professional ,someone needs to get their head out of their ###.I've touched on only 5% of the stuff going on.Everyone in management is sick of my mouth, guess what ? I could care! Maybe it's time to go over their heads. If something bad happened I couldn't live with myself if I had your attitude.

When was their last DOT audit? With a maintenance program like you describe, what is their current safety rating? An anonymous tip to the Feds...of course you run the risk of losing your income. Or a call to the local TV news. They would have a field day with this. One more question, are you union? If so, your steward does nothing about the safety issues?

I would ask him why air tanks and fuel filters have drains on them.
