Hello guys, I'm looking to buy a new truck to lease on with my company I'v got my eye on a W900 its the end of the year so the dealers are giving awesome deals. I'm just curious what kinda mpg guys are getting with the new scr motors. I did drive a w9 for the company with the dpf isx 500ST 13sp 3.70's that basically just had regular fleet maintenance the motor wasn't looked after as good as it could have been and it averaged 5.4-5.7 all year round lite or heavy. Before i got out of it they ended up replacing the egr, turbo, and dpf in one shot and for one trip with 20k in the box it got 7mpg after that it was back down to 5.8-6 but it did work better for a bit. Is that the kinda mileage I would expect from the new scr motors too? I'd be happy with 6-6.5. Oh I run the eastern seaboard mixed weights usually only run 60-62 mph.
I'm don't want to hear the hood vs aero debate I have no interest in buying a Freightliner International or Volvo. And all the 386's 579 T660 T680 in my search area all have the paccar MX I'm driving one now in a 389 455/1650 3.70 the motor is too lazy for my liking its always fighting to hold 60-62mph when loaded so the mpg is between 4.7-5.
Thanks Guys
Who's got a 2011-2014 W900??

If you are looking for something as new as a 2014, consider a glider. There are a couple w900's on truck paper with 12.7 detroits built by Fitzgeralds, also a couple with cat motors. Don't how how Canada feels about gliders, you won't be able to take it to California.
Wings2Wheels Thanks this. -
If you want that new truck smell without the maintenance headaches, go glider. You get a new frame, cab, and front axle and whatever motor, trans, and rears you want...without pee tank, egr, etc.
Some guys have actually saved money in building a glider than taking delivery of a factory complete truck. -
I've been reading up on gliders and it looks like you can't import them into canada anymore our government put a stop to that.

nobody's got any new w9's??

Again with the gliders . Go ahead and get one, by the end of 2016 you will not be able to go to California, Colorado, Nevada, New York, the Port of Huston, or Canada Try leasing on to any company with those options, or you could be independent and try telling your customers about how you don't have to deal with emissions components on your new truck.
Some of you may not be aware but since the inception of the EPA, California has been the only state that is allowed to create laws regarding emissions. They were the only state with its own form of an EPA (CARB) so they were given a grandfather clause. EPA also gave other states the right to enact CARBs rules after they were enacted . The wave is coming. -
Guntoter..........There isnt enough MONEY in trucking to upgrade to a "Go Green" new truck.
They are Unreliable,Expensive to fix and downtime is costly.
I dont see this happening....I mean look at california, The law USED to say all trucks must be compliant by jan 1st 2014......Now they just extended it to the end of 2016, If you are OUT OF STATE CARRIER....
Aint going to work......You cant force people to BUY things they cant afford.
Kinda like the whole forced healthcare flop that is around the corner.Last edited by a moderator: Dec 16, 2013
