OUCH! I do appreciate the reply. Sorry about your misfortune. You could've installed a compliant engine and if so you would've had to prove such in court at your expense. Total money grab! I was in Coachella a couple of weeks ago and the CARB cops were there searching out idleing trucks. I don't think they can wake you up due to logbook issues. They would find a truck, picture/wait/picture/ticket on the grab handle. Sooo, you gonna pay it or never do Ca. again? BTW, CARB was in dark blue Dodge pickups with caps on the back. Only give away was the state gov. plate. Very stealth.
CARB compliant...

Trying to learn about CARB and found this old thread. No posting for 9 months. I am thoroughly confused. What do I need to do for my 2007 trucks?
-
You will need to install a diesel particulate filter, if the trucks don't have one already.
CARB seems to be giving an extension of the deadline if you are making an effort to get a dpf.
Bottom line, most trucks are supposed to have a dpf to operate in CA next year.
CA will allow 1000 miles per year for nonCARB legal trucks.
You can call carb. They will tell you what is required for your trucks.
I have an '03. I registered it with carb last year, so I was given a one year extension to operate in CA.
After Dec 31 this year, my truck won't be legal in CA. Other than the 1000 mile annual allowance.
Best thing is to call carb. Also, there is a requirement for low rolling resistance tires for your equipment.
So ask about tire rules. -
Carb is in the process of changing the 1000 miles to 5000 miles
I had to pull a truck out that had those tires on it. He was stuck on wet grass. The funny thing is I pulled him out with a 4wd pickup -
Read every line very carefully!

I will point out THE MOST IMPORTANT PART of the link I just gave you.
"if all trucks in the fleet are equipped with PM filters PRIOR TO 2014. Fleets would need to report by January 31, 2014 to take advantage." The reason they made this rule is because they don't want people buying old trucks a few years from now when they are cheaper and the filters are cheaper, do it now with the rest of us or buy a new truck six months from now.
They did extend that to June 31, 2014. It means that you will need to have a filter on and reported to CARB by June, the few guys that I know who have done it spent an average of $12,000 each. There are only about a dozen shops that do them (all in California) they are scheduling about 2 to 3 months out right now so you have about two months to make a decision. -
According to that link, 2008 and 2009 trucks are OK until 2023. As I say I am confused and not familiar with this (based in Midwest). What about this requirement? http://www.arb.ca.gov/cc/hdghg/fact_sheets/hdghg_large_fleets.pdf
Is that a different requirement only if pulling a reefer? Since I am under 20 trailers, how does it apply to me? -
Yes 2008 and newer are good. You said you have 07's they are not legal after January 31st unless you are on the "good faith" list then you will not be eligible to travel in CA after Jan 31st. The list is comprised of owners who have demonstrated a willingness to comply, are you on a waiting list to have a filter installed, have you been denied a loan for buying a compliant truck, or can you prove that you are financially unable to do it? Forget the last one, everyone who has sent bank statements in with a negative balance or tax returns with a loss for last year has been denied.
The small fleet exemption is for 3 trucks or less, the number of trailers is irrelevant. -
I would not spend one nickel until this all sorts out. Big gov't plus lawyers filling their personal coffers will leave the avg o/o broke.

I spoke to CARB this morning and enquired about my truck ( 2004 Columbia ) My truck is registered out of CA and was told I can get an extension on good faith effort for 6 months.
While CA is being sued by OOIDA, rules do kick in on Jan 1st 2014 and the fines are heavy for non-compliant.
I know this is a pain in the ###, but if you plan on running CA- comply! 2nd violation and they impound your truck on spot. Sadly this communist state has set its own rules and many other states will follow!
