I make several U-turns a day in city streets with my ltl job, sometimes its the only option.

 

Any of you SNI drivers being short changed on hometime over the holidays? My SO has been out for a month, since right after Thanksgiving. He was planning on coming home Christmas Eve and being home for 4 days. He got the word from his DBL that he can take a 48 hour break and then hes got to head out again. I dont understand how they can mess with your hometime.

 

October through Christmas is the busiest time of the year for vans ........suck it up

 

He should have been told that at thanksgiving so that he could plan accordingly but they just told him late last week. He plans on being home on the 24th and take his break, and was going to leave on the 28th which would be his 4 days. I wasnt aware that freight was that busy between christmas and new years. Just not right.

 

I have not heard any other driver say this. You would think in all the OC's I have been to lately I would have heard something.

 

This was from his DBL. Hes pretty disheartened right now. SNI has up until now been a pretty good company, but lately, there are changes in the wind that definitely dont benefit the driver. Several weeks ago, he was told by mechanics when his truck was in the shop for a PM that he was not supposed to have 12v cooking appliances...lunch box cooker, plug in cooler, and now, because it suits the company, this alteration of the hometime policy. They have been on his back about his idle time....the only idling he does is first thing in the morning to warm up his truck. Warmer months are just around the corner, and then its going to be really hard on him, having to sleep in a warm truck. Dont know about the rest of you, but the thermostat here at home is set to 65 degrees at night, so being told that he has to sleep in a warm vehicle is just another anti driver policy. It stands to reason that if a 12v appliance will start an electrical fire, so will a 12v window fan. They need to get their stories straight. SNI just aint the place it used to be. I think they got too big and now they are cutting costs at the drivers expense.

 

Was reading through the 2013/14 winter survival guide as it relates to battery life and idling. Funny how this booklet for drivers states that any 12v appliance with a heating element (such as a lnch box cooker) never be left plugged in while away from the3 vehicle and that 12v coolers should be unplugged overnight as well to conserve battery life.

Not one word stated anything such as these items are banned etc. Perhaps your husband doesn't know how to use the bunk heater(will keep him plenty warm) Or has been rude or disrespectful to DBL. Or haas idled constantly to run these items unecessarily. But what you stated is NOT policy.

 

Nope...not the case. My S/O knows very well how to use the bunk heater. And I realize that these things are not covered in the survival guide, but this is what the mechanics told him. It takes less than an hour to heat a meal in one of those 12v cookers and then there is no need to keep them plugged in. Seems to me that having a window fan plugged in over night would be more of a battery drain and hazard to the wiring. It may NOT be policy, but this is what hes been told.

 

The mechanics there are either bored , playing jokes or just plain ########.

Heres the thing, when it comes to policy and what can and cant be on the truck, that is a contract between you and the company. A contract in which yu will sign line item by line item that you understand and agree to adhere to said policy for whatever that line item is.

I just went through my annual check ride with SNI and it was at the end of it that I initialed 17 pages of stuff.All of it related to company policy. Of course I got a copy to have for myself.
Nowhere in there did it say that the mechanics are the duly appointed Schneider Police. At most what they can do is make the report for against policy findings to safety, regulatory or your DBL or not release the truck after a repair or PM.
