After pulling an all nighter, making my 6:00 am delivery on time, pulling into the Phx terminal with less than 30 on my 14, getting through the incoming inspection, and dropping my empty, I finally logged Off Duty at 10:00 am. Got the truck in the shop and "no problems" according to their computer. Turned the governor to 62. Then off to the body shop to renumber the truck. Then off to the truck wash to clean up this mess and it doesn't work. Then it's just after noon and the permits dept is at lunch, I'm tired and go to sleep...

... wake up after 5:00 pm and the permits department is closed. I have to wait until 8:00 am to get updated permits and a temporary license plate on the tractor.

Since my original tractor bought the big one and with this new tractor I figure I've lost at least 6 working days and 2400 miles. It would have been better for Swift to keep me in the hotel for another night to get my first truck out of the shop in Peoria. The new truck alone has cost me two days.

Love's in Richmond Hill, GA. Burned 10.5 hours to go 250 miles. After getting thru the I-4 traffic, I-95 was shut down in Georgia for another fatal crash. I sent msgs all day asking to tcall and stating that I am running way behind because of traffic and got absolutely no response until I put my loaded call in with a blown out ETA. This is routed differently than I expected and there isn't a terminal on the way. My hours are low and there is absolutely no way I can have it there by the delivery time. Was told to run as fas as possible tomorrow and send another MAC 22 once I am stopped. Hopefully they repower it but it still leaves me without a shop. Maybe I will just send a breakdown macro tomorrow and get road service.

Finally got a key for the abandoned truck this afternoon and got it here around 1900.
I speak with the dispatcher in the mt trailer window and he says they'll put me up in a hotel tonight and gave me the number of the lady I need to call tomorrow to get a ride back to my truck.
I take the shuttle to the hotel and wait for 20 minutes or so for the room voucher to be faxed over.
    It never happens.
So I call Fontana and wait another 20 minutes on hold before finally getting through to a DM.
He was very kind, putting enough on my ComData card to cover the room and a meal.

I finally got to drive one of the KW's (the one with the long skinny nose), and I must say I was none too impressed with it.
The sleeper is wonderful, but driving it is a bit cramped and I don't like the placement of the controls.
No ashtray, minimal sun visors, the seat is uncomfortable and I clunked into gear most of the time because the clutch is so unpredictable.

I can't wait to get back to my little Volvo.

2192 miles and averaged 45.6cpm for a gross of $1001 for the week, there were a few hickups through the week which slowed down being able to get a few more miles. I am happy doing this, I even got praise over the QC about doing an outstanding job so far. It's more work and some stores are a little stressful but for the most part its easy, consistent etc. I know right now we need another driver.

    Pros
    more pay
consistent miles and not getting stuck somewhere otr wondering what and when your next load might be
    staying out of the snow
home weekly for a 34 and when freight slows down some drivers opt to take 2 days off a week
Normally decent delivery windows for all loads
Drop and hooks normally all the time even for backhauls, only did 1 live unload and slept doing my 10 during it, was told the live unloads normally only happen during holidays.

    Cons
Its a bit more work at times
there are a few stores that can be a bit challenging

Wolfy, that does sound like a good gig. You're based out of Fontana?

Tell me about it. Whoever designed the interior of these trucks must never have driven OTR before. I'm not a big guy (although the O/O that had my KW put a "Big Daddy" sticker on the driver's door :D :D :D) but I'm constantly banging my knees and head trying to get in and out of the truck. I mean, really? Doesn't a truck driver NEED to get in and out of the truck more than just a few times a day?

There's next to NO storage in the "work area" for items that are needed on a constant basis. Where do I put my RM atlas, snack items, sunglasses, work gloves, etc. etc. etc.? They have a few TINY storage compartments and NOTHING else.

There's NO fold out or roll out table or drawer. This IS a work environment, right? If I'm preparing a meal I need to stand up and put a tray on the bunk. If I'm doing paperwork I need to sit in the cramped driver's seat and spread my paperwork on the dash and passenger's seat.

Regarding the clutch, I'm VERY happy with the Eaton Fuller 13 speed in this baby. Kind of nice to get back to that overlap of speed vs rpm again. But with this gutless Cummins (likely going to continue to be gutless after the regen issues) I'm sure the mpg's are going to continue to be well south of seven.

    Turning radius.... enough said.

Narrow cab means the mirrors can't see behind the trailer at all, BUT I've found it is much easier to back this up once I'm fairly straight. I don't have to deal with the parallax issues anymore when I look in the side mirrors. I DO like the hood mounted globe mirrors a lot, because they're bigger and aren't as convex so I'm able to see more detail more easily.... much easier for blind side backing as well.

I got my permit book updated. Looks like I'll have to keep this turkey.... :(
