Only Cobra I would mess with is Classic 25. If I was going to spend more than that I would look at Galaxy/Connex couple others. The one in truck may be tuned well and all he needs. Satellite radio is used far more than CB hour in and out. Unless he just likes to hear wimps talking tough and cursing anyone they want from safety of unknown truck. Sirius/XM will give him anything he likes from sports to comedy. Hard rock to rap to bluegrass to mystery and old and new comedy.
Help buying CB for hubby! Or does he really need one?!

I like the DX 979. One good thing about it is a mid-size chassis. Many trucks have an opening in the overhead console this radio would fit in versus a large chassis radio won't. It would be a great starter radio.
There are truckers quitting all the time and they sell their radios dirt cheap on the road. He'll probably own a few in his career when he runs across a deal. I paid $50 for my DX-979 from a desperate driver.
I had a Cobra 25 as a backup I loved. I read on a tech forum those radios they can do more with than a 29.
TheFlame, A trucker always needs a CB at a customer many times if nothing else. They call you on the CB when they have you unloaded and want you to come in and get your paperwork or you might need a radio to check in with a customer. They are aggravating around truckstops. Just like you have keyboard Rambos on the computer you have CB Rambos at the truckstops.SheepDog Thanks this. -
I also use a 25 as a backup. Sometimes not sure it's not equal of my Galaxy. Guy I had tune it said same thing. Liked it better then 29. And not so busy with knobs and buttons you never use.

If he is really into cb radio's I would say galaxy, connex, president makes some nice radio's. Not saying that cobra isn't as dependable. I started withna midland 23 channel way back. Then moved uo to a cobra with a connex board in it. 15 years ago I bought my Connex 3300HP ZX used for 125.00 with a road king mic. Still get compliments when I key up bout how it sounds.

A $20 radio and an $80 antenna is better than an $80 radio and a $20 antenna.
Buying from a truck stop may be the fastest but there are a few good mail order guys that are highly recommended. I haven't bought from this guy but I will in the future because he is so recommended.

I am thinking about this one. Thoughts? If I need to buy an antenna then this is more my price range for the CB.
ANTENNA??? -
Will he be driving the same truck all the time? Will the truck have antennas? Most do.
Does he need to easily transfer from one truck to another?
What kind of truck will he drive? It will affect the antenna mount.
A Wilson trucker 2000 is very popular but about 3 times the price of a Francis which probably works just as well.SheepDog Thanks this. -
He owns a Kenworth big cab something or other, sorry. I don't know what kind. I will try to figure how to upload a pic. I don't know if it has an antenna already. I am thinking I might let him pick that out the more I look at them. Thank you for the info!
