Hey to ya down in GA, I wouldn't be the one to ask that question to, as I'm just a dumb driver as they say. There probably is a better place to ask that also, like maybe the O/O section, I might guess. My company has 4 or 5 O/O
and I think I heard the boss takes somewhere between 10 and 15 percent and deducts everything else out, fuel, license, insurance, permits, and whatever else I can't think of. Sorry I can't help ya out. C-ya

    Great thread.
Although Im not trucking yet I will be starting school on the 24th and once Im on the road if I were to see another trucker (veteran or rookie) having trouble, I would be glad to lend them a hand if possible and if a veteran trucker seen me doing something wrong or had advice for me to make the job easier then I would be very grateful.
I agree that truckers are all in it together no matter what their hauling and they should stick together as if it were a family member out there.
The cops stick together wether their out of state or out of town and truckers should do the same.
It should not be hard to wave at another trucker on a 2 way or treat another trucker with respect at anytime. Being nice will get you alot farther than being rude. Like they say, "what goes around, comes around".
If Im in a jam and could use another truckers help or advice and he/she wants to be an ##* then hey, I might just see that same person again someday when they could use some help and I will remember how they treated me when I was in that position. Life is too short to spend it being an ##*.

You will always get a wave from me on a two lane road!! If your broke down and asking for help, I'm the guy in the gold freightliner classic that pulls up behind you!! You might have to yell at me on the radio to get me to talk but its always on,I just don't talk to hear myself.

It's over 3 months old, but great post eckz. No matter what your profession, working together is usually more beneficial than being cut-throat. A little courtesy goes a long way.

    Cheers.

Newbs first post - I found my friends here, Y'all share the spirit of respect for each other that is at the core of what we are. I don't have to know who you are or where your from. See the words in this post and anyone with half a brain can see that those old days are still burnin in your souls. God Bless Truckers and may the miles be few that lay between them and their loved ones.:thumbleft:

When I was a boy and used to ride with my dad, I always remember seeing the drivers give a little wave or nod to each other. There was a much stronger brotherhood back then. Many professions seemed to have a closness, a brotherhood, and sadly to say, it seems like many have gone by the side of the road. Even in my years working at Chrysler in machining we always helped each other. We thought if one of us had a problem, then we all had a problem. We worked together to fix it and then go back to our jobs. Towards the end of my years there, It was noticed that when many of the new people came in, they didn't want to be bothered with anyones problem, even when we would help them out with theirs. True they probably didn't know much about helping us solve our problem, but they wouldn't even stand off to the side to watch and learn.:biggrin_25512:

I've heard that - and seen it, to be honest.

However, if somebody passes me on the interstate (or even on those rare occasions when I pass somebody else) I try to always wave to the other driver.

Ditto on 2-lane roads, but this time I include oncoming traffic.

I've been to a number of ... shall we call them badly designed??? shipping docks - and at most of them, if there's more than one driver/door, drivers help each other out. (in particular, one wonderful Marten lady driver at the last place I was at. As she was helping, she stepped in a pothole and broke a finger. I had to leave before she came back from the ER. Hope she's ok)

So, yeah, there's not a lot of brotherly goodness out there, but it's there.

I do what I can to encourage it.

Even though I drive a 4-wheeler, I still wave at truck drivers cause they respect me the most period. I could care less if a other 4-wheeler wants to pass me, but if a truck driver wants too, I slow down and let him pass as hes in a bigger hurry than me and if im passin, i pop a salute for respect. Most 4-wheelers are arrogant and full of it anyways. Back in 90's and sometimes today, other truck drivers would flask their lights at you to warn of speed traps. Thank you vetearn truck drivers for being nice to those who do and those who don't.
