Ok, for years we have called them 18 wheelers. We all know that.

Super single tires come along. No need for 18 wheels on the ground. 10 if the truck is completely equipped with the newer tire set-up, 14 if only on tractor or trailer.

I wish to be politically and technically correct. What are they to be called ?

" HOW ABOUT THAT SOUTH BOUND 14 ( or 10 ) WHEELER" just does not sound right.

I would hate to have a driver with super singles get insulted by calling his truck a 10 wheeler. He might get upset and sue me.

What say ye ? Still 18 wheeler ? or do we go to the technically correct 10 wheeler and make the group " ALABAMA " change their song around ?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

Still an 18, suppose you could call it a reduced count 18. A 5 axle rig, double tandem rig, probably more ways to call it.

Doubles with a single axle tractor pulling are a 5 axle rig, too.

Im a 14 wheeler most days and sometimes 10. I prefer "semi" "rig". "truck" could be pickup, box, an rv etc. 18 wheeler doesn't correctly describe how awesome my singles are. Semi or rig both let people know you mean big truck, a real truck, not a box truck or uhaul.

Go with "big truck". But wait, will the truck get offended then? Maybe "evenly proportioned gross weighted vehicle". Oh no, can't call it gross or it may get an inferiority complex.
