    Hi Everyone!

I've been gone for a long time. Never been so busy in my life between ill family, work etc. Nice to see you all again!!!

Finally got my truck ready to go, thought twice about it now with gas prices and decided to park it a little longer, take a job with a local O/O until I have a larger cushion. This is just scary!

It's definitely time to strike! One day would get their d*** attention. Even working for someone else I'd park for a day easily. Heck, 12 hours would get their attention!!

What's up with not being able to get everyone to see this? I realize there are millions of truckers, but think about even 1/4 of them parked for 12 hours

I agree. My cash reserves are wiped out. I am just a flat tire from going bankrupt.

You don't see anyone talking abut it in the news. We are just invisible to the present administration.

If I had the money I would step up, but I'm broke. I have been getting raped by the brokers and shippers this last three months and with fuel prices, I have just about had it.:biggrin_25510:

What would it take to get this in the news? Parked trucks. No food, clothing etc. It's in our local news here but that's not enough

Funny thing is.. the brokers will go broke hand in hand with us! we don't move the freight they don't get paid either.. I am getting calls daily from brokers looking for a truck.. I ask the rate and then tell them to look elsewhere, they say the shipper/receiver wont/cant pay anymore, I say sorry about your luck.

Do you even watch any of the major news channels??? It has already been said that there is no reason for this and that oil should be $70 to $80 a barrel not $110.00!! The demand for gas has dropped in the last few weeks and so all of a sudden oil jumps up like this! Why do you think that is?

It's big oil doing this......because the demand has gone down for gas they are raising the price of oil/diesel to compensate for the loss in demand because they know that unlike cars, big truck have to keep rolling and that demand will never drop. We are a gold mine for big oil! They are so hell bent in making money they will do whatever it takes to make it, even if it pull this country into a major recession and this needs to stop before it's too late.

You're wrong about one thing, this is a war. This is a war to maintain our way of life and to provide for the ones we love. We can't do this paying $4.05 for fuel (price of diesel at a local T stop here in NC) $10,000 log book fines for a simple mistake....$300.00 ( or way more ) to unload a trailer when it should be no cost to us....trying to make a living on less than a $1.50 per mile while paying operating costs and your personal bills....Outrageous toll rates....BS idling laws. Do i even need to say how much the fines for excessive idling can be? No matter if it is -10!

Trucking is a business but for the vast majority of people who take the constant abuse from the state, local and federal governments, not to mention the time away from the people we love, it is a way of life. You don't drive a truck to get rich. You do it because you love it and that's why so many people are holding on by the skin of their teeth and fighting for every scrap they can get. Don't you think that there would be a hell of a lot of empty trucks sitting every where you looked right now. People would just say the hell with it and walk away if there were no passion for this profession.

I myself love driving and there is nothing else i would want to do but the one thing i hate about it is the.....i don't give a #### about you or anyone elses mentality of way to many drivers today.

You want to know what the last 20 years of that mentality has gotten the trucking industry?

Then just open your eyes and look around........and if we don't get off our ##### and do something now then it's going to get a helluva a lot worse.....and you will have no one to blame but yourself!

I love you're enthusiasm! I do read or view the news daily and am very aware of the problems our country is facing and those of the trucking industry. But.. the problems with all of the above are bigger then you and I.. truckers will only stop rolling when the profits are completely gone, (Very soon for Independents) or there is no more fuel. people have families to care for and debt to pay and that is the bottom line for most truckers, not because they love to drive. I come from a family of truckers.. I was the last holdout, my dad sold his equip 5 years ago, and my brother last year. I still have my tractor and trailer but not for long, I canceled my insurance a week ago and my authority will be revoked in a month or so. I understand the freedom of the road Vs working under a boss in some factory, but there is NOTHING more I can do about it, I am off the road and refusing to haul for such small margins. What have you done?.. are you driving today?.. if so you are contributing to the very system you are so against. Join us that are actually doing something and get out of that truck!
Also.. Oil is a commodity and is sold on a supply and demand basis. Our government does not regulate the price, that is controlled by the world market and the godless speculators. should the US declare war on the oil supplying nations? or maybe wall street? you bet they are getting rich, but thats the way a free market works.

My understanding is the reason oil is going up is because the stock brokers are moving their assets into oil. Not only stock brokers here in the U.S., but around the world. True, there is no shortage.:biggrin_25520:

Yeah, this seems to be a big problem. Other than Unions, are there any other large lobbying organizations that represent the interests of drivers?

I dont understand why a walmart driver would strike unless your talking about an independant. Sorry, not sure if I fully understand this reasoning. My impression is that the company drivers would have no reason to strike. They have nothing to loose.:biggrin_2554:
