How often do you drive the tank truck at 80 or 75 k pounds?

My plan is to stay a water hauler/ vaccum truck driver until I get over a year on my cdl. Then I move back east new jersey and haul gasoline or try to get an ltl job. So, I can be home every night. What you think?

Are you asking how often tanker drivers carry full legal weight? I scale out with maximum legal weight just about every load.

Talk to Chinatown. There are a small handful of tanker companies that will hire you right out of school for fuel.

Around here (upstate NY) most of the big tri axle gas tankers are grossing out over 100k.

I am at or near max nearly every run in DFW. We have cut back from 8800 gasoline to 8500 in colder weather to stay legal due to density. Of course we still do a lot of mom and pop and Pattel stores that may want as little as 5000 or a mix of 87,89, 83, ULSD. But on QT,Murphy's, RaceTrac and other larger chains we just about always have a full load.
Keep your record spotless if possible. NO speeding or wrecks. Lot of liability and responsibility hauling potential bomb or chemical weapon if you have bad wreck in tanker. But management never hurries us. Will call and want to know how long till you get someplace that is low. But no griping or arm twisting.
Gas Hauler is THE MAN on this and can tell you whatever you need to know. I have 7 months and should have done it 20 yrs ago.

Really not that bad at all as long as all your brakes are in proper adjustment. When I was pulling for ARG we always ran heavy. One important thing is if your going to be running a lot of mountainous terrain a good functioning jake is your best friend.
