Terrible situation. It says in the story the driver used the lawn of a residence to make the U-turn. Far better to continue going and look for a safe and legal place to turn around.

 

B Service was done today.... but the Mira Loma shop hasn't released the truck because the check engine light is still on and the oil pressure gauge is showing 100 lbs no matter what they do.... ??? They decided to pull the truck from the shop and park it and "maybe it will be done tomorrow"...???

I've heard that ML shop can be slow, but this is getting ridiculous with this truck. I'll have been assigned to it for 10 days tomorrow and that will make 3 days not being able to drive because of shop time. I've requested layover pay and made another request for assignment to another truck. Not keeping up too much hope...

 

Lepton, I doubt the oil pump could ever produce that much pressure. It must be the gauge or sensor.


Well, it looks like Swift's reputation just took another hard hit with that U-turn accident.
Hopefully the 'fatality' is an incorrect report, but that looked pretty bad.

 

I agree 100 psi is way too high to achieve and it has to be a sensor or gauge problem. Having 100 psi showing is absolutely new in my experience with this truck, it's been steady at 38-40 psi while operating. Perhaps doing the oil change today may have something to do with it.

 

p/u the load at the otc ok terminal and vamoosed rite out of there. radio was saying an ice storm was due to hit after 1800. drove to fuelstop in amirillo tx and took my 30 min break. went to subway and seems like everyone else did too lol. was gonna drive as far as i could to get as far from this storm and made it too pilot in moriarty nm with 30 min. left. have 785 miles to go and will drive to pilot in lake havesu az offramp for my ten tomorrow nite. then go the rest of the way sunday. gonna due a 34 reset monday so i can get my mail, pay storage, and hand out xmas gifts to my good freinds kids. calling for snow tomorrow, so hopefully i can slide rite by lol

 

Laredo, TX - again with a broken A/C, as well as a broken windshield and burned out fog light.
Turns out my bug screen behind the grill had also broken loose.

Fog light and bug screen are fixed, but it started getting both busy and late so the windshield will wait for tomorrow.
The A/C might be tomorrow if they can get it ordered tomorrow, otherwise I'll have to wait until Monday to get it fixed.
Hopefully it stays overcast and fairly mild.

 

I doubt it.
It is just bad timing - or good timing - to have something fail when you are already in the shop for service.

Since the pump is not capable of putting out that kind of pressure the problem is elsewhere.
And it is better that it show up now than when you are in the middle of a load.
It is less lost time and expense for all involved.

That's how I am treating my current problems with my truck.
The A/C seems to only need a hose and a recharge, but it might take 2-3 days to get it done.
Everything else can be done within a day.
So I could head out and wait to get the A/C fixed, or sit here a couple three days.
Sitting here is a known factor, but trying to get it fixed later is an unknown. It might take even longer at the next terminal, or I could get caught in very cold weather where I need that A/C to properly defrost my windows.


As to getting a different truck, well, you never know what you'll get. It could be much better, or much worse.
I just go with the flow and try to work with it.
You might get this little problem worked out in a couple days and then be home free with a very reliable truck.

 

They just fixing a valve stem on one of my tires, so I drove it 50 yards around to park it again in the row to go back in the shop. The oil pressure is pegged at 100. It motor sounds very rough, even rougher than before it went into the shop this afternoon. Definitely have misfiring in at least one cylinder and I can't fathom why three shops now can't seem to even acknowledge that as an issue.

I agree that it is far better that it gets fixed and I'm not stranded somewhere (again), but I really don't have much faith in this truck if they are continuously saying "Gosh, it's good to go!" when I know darned well this WILL have another breakdown in the not distant future and just hoping the jakes don't blow going down from the Eisenhower or something worse (for example). I'd bet my next paycheck (which won't be much at this rate) that throwing it on a dyno test would likely identify the issues far faster than the Swift shops have done.

 

wow sucks lepton but good luck, I saw a bunch of trucks sitting in the assignment row the last time I was there but probably wont give you a truck until Mr Zimmerman is there Monday who does all the truck assigning.

wtf was that swift driver even thinking? Making a Uturn is risky at any point but in a residential area and on someones lawn? wow....he definitely will pay for this decision now and hopefully the report of the death is wrong, I know the news said the guy was injured and flown to a hospital. I also question how fast was this car driving and if he was even paying attention to not notice a big 70 foot rig turning in front of him. I have done some U-turns but never unless there is plenty of space and very very low traffic and I check traffic several times before doing it and will not do it if I even see a car in the distance. He should of just kept going and looked for a street to get turned around instead and if he was driving in an area he wasnt supposed to then thats just the time to bite your pride and call up for police assistance to avoid something like this.

Delivered to a local store today and then took a load to Livermore up near Tracy area, that store was a pain too the way they set the docks up, you had to come in from the left and there was no space to even setup for a blind so I dropped my load on the side then grabbed the mt and took it completely out of the docks and parked it behind my loaded trailer then went in tightly as I could and did a very tight U-turn using the little space in front of the docks then inside the dock and backed up a couple times to make it, my sleeper saw the trailer for the closest it ever has and then I turned and straightened along the building and then backed it around the corner and into the dock, a day cab could of tackled this one much easier for sure, this dang delivery took me about 40min total. Seems im getting the tougher stores this past week for the most part. Later today my only load is to Palmdale, Saturdays are the slowest days we have, the dock looks fairly easy looking at Google maps but im going to ask another driver for the best way to enter the place since its setup a bit different for entrances. I try to take the trainers advice and never go into a store blindly and he even gave me his cell to call him any time for info. He has been driving for the DC for 11 years now so he knows every store, the store number, the streets and everything in detail when I ask him.
