Home!!!
Not coming back out till after the holidays.
Was so nice here today. Not sure the exact temp,.. felt like 80. So nice compared to what I went through hauling from Houston to Watford City during the first snow storm.
Had a pick up bounce off my trailer in Gainesville tx and flip in the median. I pull over and as he is crawling out I ask if he's ok. He says,.. Did you see that!? Again,.. I ask if he is ok!? Man did you see that?! Are you ok!!?? Um,.. yeah. Me: Ok,.. have a nice day.
From Watford City to Williston,.. the wind picked up. -9 actual temp with -36 windchill. It was brutal. Then they shut down I85,.. had to head out via Montana to deliver load of crane parts heading to Casper Wy. I'm of the opinion that anything north of the I80/Cheyenne - Laramie area,.. northern Wy does not own a single snow plow or sand spreader. Back down to Tx,..Larado this time for a load heading to Bethpage Ny (Long Island). Second snow storm comes in. Had to wait half the day before I finally got unloaded.
Then over to JFK to pick up a load to SC. Lufthansa has to have some of the laziest people working for them. I am of the opinion that if you put them all together,.. they still did not possess enough common sense to equal a rain drop. They lost my paperwork. Gave it to another driver. What should have been 1 hour,.. turned into 6 hours to get paperwork and escort to get loaded. Fortunately broker coughed up some detention pay.
Dead head from SC to Ga to get a load of Cement grount. Supposed to be only 40k. As I am leaving I can feel the weight,.. I'm talking to myself,.. "This feels heavy". Closest scale is 94mi away and had to pass through Atlanta by pass to get to it. Traffic was ridonkulous. Sure enough,.. I'm 380lbs over gross. I was at 3/8 fuel (150 gal tanks), which meant they loaded me with an easy 49k. I radio'd ahead,.. next scale was closed. I needed to burn off at least 50 gallons in order to have half a chance of them letting me skate through. Get to the last scale on i75 before Fl state line and funniest thing. Seemed like every trucker on the east coast converged in my little zone. As far as the eye could see,.. trucks jockying for position. Get to the scales and I get the bypass because so many trucks in there. I roll into fla on fumes. I'm on empty by the time I hit the first scale and POE. I get the by pass there too. I continue on and hit the next scale a little past Ocala. This one I got pulled in to weigh. I breath a sigh of relief as he green lights me. I hit the T/A 8 mi down the road and filled 257 gallons. Thats the lowest I've ever run the fuel down.
I was safe all the way to get unloaded after that.
Home now,.. just had a good dinner. Wife has a cold,.. I'm exhausted.
Merry Christmas everyone!!

probably not, I have a buddy riding along so probably just find something coming back. Got a container to fill out this load, worked out pretty well. I just missed my Key West load, it was out of Minneapolis ! I spotted it one night on the board, but was gone before I got to call the next morning. Wasn't the greatest but it was doable. I guess Houston will have to do for now, it's nicer their than 95% of the rest of this country right now, what a mess !MJ1657 Thanks this.

Well I'm home for the holiday, got a call from the powers telling me that they are going to make someone else take my load over Christmas so I can be home because I miss every holiday, birthday, anniversary, daughters graduation etc.
On another note, I got a call from the management team and for what it's worth I got the "Pride Of The Fleet" award for 2013. Not sure what it is or what I can do with it but I got it anyway.MJ1657, dannythetrucker, Hott Rodd and 4 others Thank this. -
Broke down and out of luck in Las Cruces.
Turbo went out on the ISX. This makes 3 turbos that the boss gets to buy. Merry Christmas boss. -
Congrats, flyer. Not surprising considering the stories you have to share. You sound like the type of driver every company would like to have.MJ1657 Thanks this.

Congratulations on a job well done.
Do any goodies come with that award? -
I did a little shopping today and plan on having a few beers later on. I'm going to spend tomorrow in my spear shack.

Home til Monday morning then I'm going to come home and replace the floor in my doonan trailer.

That doesn't sound like much fun.

Thanks cpape, I just do what the company pays me to do the best I can.
There is but I'm not sure, I'll find out more next time I'm at the office. However I did "goodie" myself when I got home this trip.
